One of the most difficult things I have ever done was write my personal statement for law school. I only had two pages to fit in almost 30 years of living and working. My personal statement was the only way I could show-off my personal brand and showcase the highlights of my life that would make me an attractive law student.

Similarly, when running for office your personal brand is just as important. You have approximately 30 seconds to connect with voters. Social media is one of the most cost-effective methods to build your brand and build your supporters.

BUT FIRST.... Please invest time and money into your personal branding.

- Do get professional head shots
- Do get action photos showcasing why you will be the best (insert office) they have ever seen
- Do have a professional logo created
- Do pay to have a professional website created, unless you happen to also be a web designer.

- DO NOT use selfies as your "political" photo
- DO NOT use pictures of you at questionable parties (no blackface photos please)
- DO NOT get your family member, random people on Fiverr or some other "hook-up" to create your logo
- DO NOT go the cheap route and forego having a website.

*Disclaimer, this is not an exhaustive list of what you need to look the part and standout from the crowd. This is just free game.
