It’s a rite of passage in the 190th for law clerks and interns to write a complex order that the judge doesn’t need to edit. Sometimes it takes weeks or months to get it right.

Last Friday, my law clerk Randall Schulz got there. I’m proud of the work and the growth behind it, and this is a handshake we’ll both remember.

Yesterday was a good day to be a judge of the 190th.

It started with a jury returning a verdict. One of those jurors happened to be the daughter-in-law of Judge Wyatt Heard, the very first judge of our court. Pretty special to have that connection in the jury box.

Then came a wedding, followed by the swearing-in of a new lawyer. Two milestones, back to back.

We finished the day starting pretrial on a case set for trial in November.

Thank you to our jurors, our court staff, and everyone who makes the court and legal system work for our county, state, and nation.

I recently had the honor of speaking on an AI panel at the Texas Women Rainmakers 2026 Conference - and only the 2nd male speaker to do so in the 11 year history of the conference! Thank you to our moderator Sofia Bruera and fellow panelists Michelle Acosta and Kelsey Stokes for including me and sharing how you are adapting to our ever changing legal world with AI - and what we all need to learn and how we can make it work for the betterment of our community.

This past Monday was a significant day for my family.

I was honored to attend the Change of Command ceremony for the United States Navy’s Carrier Strike Group 2, on board the USS Eisenhower, in which my brother assumed command.

A change of command ceremony is not entirely new to me; I grew up attending several as my dad, a Naval aviator like my brother, had his own change of command ceremonies during his time in the Navy.

Last week, Chief Justice Blacklock reminded us that lawyers and judges serve as custodians of constitutional traditions. We cannot forget that our armed forces protect that very Constitution and the ideals of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

I am so very proud of you, Scott and Dad, and thankful to all who serve and have served our country.
