Democratic Nominee for Texas House, District 133 Sandra G Moore, Candidate for Texas House, District 133

10/20/2020

Good evening fellow voters. I have been forging ahead on my campaign for TX state house district 133. This weekend we lit dropped at least 1000 cards as well as phone banked. There were short periods where I handed out lit at Nottingham voting center. The majority of voters there already knew for whom they were voting so it was back to the push cards.
Advertising is critical. I would appreciate if you would dig deep in your pockets, wallets and purses to donate to this campaign. We have momentum and need your help to maintain it.

Good afternoon fellow voters. The campaign has been very active these last three weeks. I was endorsed by the Houston Association of Black Democrats which is an honor! Additionally my supporters and I mailed out almost fifteen thousand post cards to swing voters in 133. There have been lit drops with voter registration forms so that every eligible person in State House District 133 is able to vote. Many of us have worked very hard to reach out to voters.
Now, however, I humbly ask for your support. Please donate whatever you can so that this momentum can be sustained. Even without employees there are costs, especially for postage. Anything that you contribute will be greatly appreciated.

Good afternoon voters. Early voting begins on October 13 2020. I hope that you will like my platform.
The voters of 133 appear to have bipartisan agreement on these four issues:
1) manage flood control issues along Buffalo Bayou and decrease the time it will take to implement the strategies that are decided upon. It appears that a third dam is not viable. We'll know more about this when the latest iteration of the USACE report is released some time this month. This makes reliance upon the Katy Prairie a significant part of flood mitigation. Additionally it would appear that buyouts along the Bayou are inevitable. We need retention spaces but our Bayou is so built up that this will not happen without significant buyouts.
2) ensure that children who are eligible to receive special education evaluations get them as well as the remedies to which they are legally entitled. I believe that should also apply to charter schools which right now have numerous exemptions. The solution is not to expel a child who does not fit the model of "mainstream." I don't want to see this issue get lost in the morass of education as we plod our way through COVID 19 and how to best and most safely educate our children.
3) expand Medicaid. COVID 19 has demonstrated that the working poor suffer profoundly when they have no health insurance. Many who have been "downsized" lost their health insurance, some immediately and others after a short grace period when they were carried by their previous employer. Sadly most can't afford COBRA. Although State House District 133 is generally affluent there are areas where large numbers of voters live at subsistence level. It would not cost the state that much to insure these good and hardworking people via Medicaid. It would speak well of the district which is composed of excellent people who want quality healthcare for all.
4) legalize the possession of ma*****na up to 2 oz and decriminalize possession of 2.1 to 4 oz of ma*****na. Many parents and grandparents would sleep better knowing that their family members who "use" would not be arrested and/or charged with a crime. I've written extensively about this issue in an earlier post which you can easily locate on this site.
Good voters...I am honored to be a candidate for District 133 and hope to earn your vote during this coming election period.
Thank you for your time and attention.

Once again I'd like to make this post about dealing with COVID 19. More and more people are experiencing COVID LETHARGY. Many find it difficult to engage in many small tasks. A lot of people are experiencing anxiety and dysphoria. Companies are downsizing and people don't know if they will have a job in two months. Others have taken pay cuts. While grateful to have a job they are worried about how to make their bills. The extra $600 unemployment survival benefit expired on July 25th. So anxiety about mortgages and rent has skyrocketed. On top of all of this, messaging from government leaders has been conflicting, especially regarding children going back to school remotely or online. Some fail to consider the risk to staff especially those with underlying physical conditions. The last piece of bad news for residents of 133 is that three zip codes, 77077, 77057 (part of it is in 133) and 77055 (part of it is also in 133) now have some of the highest numbers of diagnosed COVID numbers in the city of Houston.
With this scenario playing out it is understandable that so many experience COVID lethargy. So I suggest the following:
1) lower expectations about what you expect yourself to achieve right now
2) if there's a household task you think you need to do but just "can't make myself do it" then lower the bar dramatically. If you've only got 10 minutes in you...fine!! give yourself permission to feel good at the end of that 10 minutes
3) throw it out if your de-cluttering. A lot of what gets donated goes to the dump anyway so just perform that step directly. There will be no safe garage sales for a lo-o-ong time anyway
4) accept that it's rough for the children. They are bored beyond what Americans typically experience. Parents can't be perfect for their young ones. As stated previously try to develop a "bubble" with at least one other family that is masking and social distancing.
5) keep a structure for the entire family. Get up at the same time and have a fixed bedtime for everyone...including mom and dad. This maintains some continuity for the children.
Make reading stories a treat. Many children love to be read to. Do that before nap time and at bedtime. Who knows even a 12 yo might like it during these times. The point here is to CREATE A FOND MEMORY WHERE THEY FELT SAFE WITH THEIR PARENT
6) if drinking too much and you know you have a problem, consider a virtual AA meeting. Everyone in that meeting will understand
7) DO A BUDGET. This can be very frightening but it's a gotta. Call places where there is an outstanding loan and ask to decrease the monthly payment. The company may not like it but getting some money is better than getting none. This is a problem fraught with anxiety but it's better to tackle it before the budget tackles you!
8) be kind to yourself...wear a mask, maintain social distancing and use hand sanitizer. This is every person's profoundly important contribution to society. This is what will help contain COVID until an effective vaccine is found and distributed
9) this will end but don't ask when...it's an act of self torture and leads to catastrophizing. Terrible things have an end point when managed. Instead focus on managing the present.. It's not easy but Americans can be tenacious and unstoppable when they commit to that. Commit to yourself, your family, and your community.
This is respectfully submitted to you from my position as an LPC!
