What a great first day of early voting in Onslow County! 🇺🇸 🗳️
Earlier this year, we had a pretty low voter turnout during the March primary election. I was curious to see how yesterday's numbers compared, so I pulled the data from the NC State Board of Elections website.
Here's what I found!
🗳️ March 2026 Primary (Entire Early Voting Period):
Early voting: 6,305
Mail-in ballots: 129
Total: 6,434
🗳️ November 2026 General Election (As of October 15):
Early voting: 2,394
Mail-in ballots: 368
Total: 2,762
In just the FIRST day of early voting, along with mail-in ballots already accepted, we've reached nearly 43% of what we saw during the entire early voting period for the March primary! Now, I know general elections typically bring out more voters than primaries, but I still thought that was pretty interesting! To put things into perspective, Onslow County has 136,444 registered voters. So far, those 2,762 accepted ballots account for just over 2% of our registered voters, and we're only one day in!
Regardless of who you're voting for, I love seeing people get involved and take an interest in what's happening in our county. I've said it before, local elections matter, and the decisions made here at home affect us all.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the numbers continue to grow over the next couple of weeks! I'll see y'all at the polls! 👋🏼 🇺🇸
