Hi Friends,

Today I had the honor of notarizing a medical power of attorney for a client at a hospital. I'm hoping for the best for them and their family.

It's a reminder of something I don't say out loud very often. As a notary I'm there for the good days — the new house, the wedding, the business that finally got off the ground. But I'm also there on the hard days, and those are the ones where the paperwork matters most.

Here's the part that stuck with me. That document got signed in a hospital room, not at a kitchen table on an ordinary afternoon. It still counted. But nobody should have to handle it that way.

If you haven't put an estate plan together, at least get a power of attorney and a medical directive drawn up. Those are the papers that let the people who love you follow your wishes when you can't speak for yourself. Waiting costs nothing right up until the day it costs everything.
