When a police officer or deputy dies, we honor their service, investigate the circumstances, and give the community an opportunity to pay their respects.
I believe our K9 partners deserve that same dignity and respect.
According to our sources, on July 31, 2024, K9 Maverick died while serving with the Madison County Sheriff's Office.
Three independent sources, including sworn deputies with the Sheriff's Office, have come forward with deeply troubling information about the circumstances of his death.
If these accounts are true, what happened to Maverick is heartbreaking and incredibly disturbing. I am not comfortable sharing those details publicly until the facts are established.
Last month We formally requested records to determine what happened. To date, we have received no answers.
If Maverick's death was preventable, there must be accountability. And if the circumstances were deliberately concealed, that raises even more serious questions about leadership and transparency.
Maverick cannot speak for himself. But those who know what happened can.
His service deserves to be honored. His death deserves to be understood. And the public deserves the truth.
