One of my favorite parts of being at the City of Idaho Falls is seeing first hand how people work so hard behind the scenes so we can enjoy our many modern conveniences. From those plowing the runways to shoveling the walks outside offices buildings, everyone is plays an important role on the city team.

It’s always great to catch up with Nate Eaton - Reporter. I would certainly not be where I am today without his mentorship early on in my career.

Recognize this guy? It’s Eric Grossarth! I couldn’t have done anywhere near the work we did on the Daybell case without Eric. He started at East Idaho News as an intern and then joined us full-time as a reporter. Now he’s enjoying life outside of the news industry, but we met up for lunch today.

Today, as a city, we join the nation in solemn remembrance of the tragic events that occurred on September 11, 2001. On this day, we honor the lives lost, the heroes who emerged, and the strength of our great nation.

Let us take a moment to reflect on the resilience and unity that shone through the darkest of times. Together, we stand strong and unwavering in our commitment to freedom, justice, and compassion for one another.

May we never forget, and may we continue to strive for a better, more peaceful world.

This is one of my favorite parts of Independence Day in Idaho Falls!

As Idaho Falls prepares to celebrate the nation’s independence at the upcoming Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce “Liberty on Parade,” Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper and the Idaho Falls City Council are teaming up with the Community Food Basket – Idaho Falls to help our community.

The Mayor, City Council and volunteers will collect monetary donations that will go directly to the food basket. Volunteers will also have flyers from the CFBIF listing their “Most Needed Items” with a Venmo code on the back to donate electronically.

“We hope everyone who comes to celebrate will remember the many people in our community who could use some help during these trying times,” said Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper. “Hunger in our community is real. These people are our friends and neighbors. Please join us in celebrating our nation’s independence in a way that exemplifies the generous spirit of our country and our community. Your kind gesture will mean a lot more than you ever realize.”

The council will be moving along the parade route with a vintage fire truck provided by Farr’s Candy.

The “Liberty on Parade” 4th of July parade will take place on Tuesday, July 4 this year and will begin near Idaho Falls High School, traveling down 4th Street and then south on Boulevard to Tautphaus Park. The parade begins at 9 a.m.

If you are in a position to help out a neighbor please do! As a community we are stronger together.

The City of Idaho Falls has published a webpage resource to answer frequently asked questions following this week's severe thunderstorm and flash flooding.

While some people have already begun cleaning up, the webpage "What do I do after my house has flooded?" provides general guidance on what steps to take next.

The page can be found here: https://www.idahofallsidaho.gov/1856/What-do-I-do-after-my-house-has-flooded

Those experiencing flooding are first encouraged to contact their landlord or insurance company for assistance. People may also wish to contact a local restoration company, which can be found through a quick internet search.

If a restoration company is unable to provide assistance, begin cleaning up as quickly as possible. Wet surfaces and materials can begin to mold quickly. For more detailed guidance on after-flood home clean-up, visit the Federal Emergency Management Administration's website.

"If you're not already busy cleaning up your own home, chances are, you'll know somebody who needs your help," said Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper. "One of the very best things about Idaho Falls is the way we know how to pull together and help one another. To those who are struggling right now, I call encouragement to you. And to everyone else, I ask those who can, help someone out."

The app is just one of many ways Idaho Falls PIOs can keep you in the know. Download the app today and ensure you have enabled push notifications for the latest.

Now's a good time to download the new City of Idaho Falls app. It's also a good time to remind folks about how important it is to stay connected to local officials sources of information as well as local media outlets, especially during emergencies. Streaming services are great for entertaining but they can't alert you to flash flooding and other severe weather warnings. Stay safe, friends! We care about you. ❤️
