A. J. Baime is coming back to Kansas City! 📚
The New York Times bestselling author of The Accidental President returns to our stage on Thursday, November 12, to discuss his new book, Bird Men: The Rise of American Airpower and the Machine that Ended World War II.
Just a few years before World War II, the U.S. Army’s Air Corps was focused less on combat than on delivering the mail. By the war’s end, the nation had built the B-29 Superfortress, an aircraft whose research and development cost more than the Manhattan Project. Baime tells this story through General Henry “Hap” Arnold and the engineers, workers, and aircrews behind the B-29. It’s a story of ingenuity, ambition, and leadership, and of how airpower reshaped America’s place in the world.
If you’ve heard A. J. at one of his many Institute appearances, you know he has a gift for bringing history to life through the people and decisions that shaped it.
