Hi All! Tom Hanley here from Nine13sports.
I want to give the community an update as to the status of The Headquarters: Mountain Bike Skills Park and the current timeline of plans as we have had a ton of messages regarding when the park will open with this nice weather that is finally coming to Indianapolis.
We have been working with Indy Parks and Indianapolis Public Safety Foundation to make sure that the riding opportunities that have existed at The Headquarters over the last years not only continue, but can be expanded for even more access.
As of today, March 20th, we are hopeful to be able to make a more formal announcement sometime in April regarding the long term plans and efforts with a targeted park opening in June.
The facility itself will need some work and maintenance before it can be opened for riding and we will be sure to share volunteer opportunities with our community as we finalize that scope of work.
We will provide more details as we are able in the weeks ahead.
If you're not following Nine13sports, please do so. While we will maintain this page, additional up to date information will be available on our main corporate channels.

THE HEADQUARTERS: MOUNTAIN BIKE SKILLS PARK·MONDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2019·

I started my career as a cop in Indianapolis in 1997, not knowing where it was going to lead me.
In 2012, I was given the opportunity to do my policing from a bicycle, and I have been lucky enough to keep the rubber side down, most of the time, ever since.
In 2014, my partner Steve Smalley and I came up with a crazy idea to start the IMPD Youth Mountain Bike Project and build the Headquarters Mountain Bike Skills Park.
Thanks to a great number of community volunteers, businesses, and organizations, it grew into an incredible program that I am honored to have been a part of.
I will be retiring at the end of this month, and very satisfied with a career that has allowed me to meet so many caring people and introduce mountain biking to thousands of kids in Indy over the past 12 years!
I am also excited to tell you that it will all continue without me.
Stand by for an announcement from your future Trail Crew.
Thanks for the ride!

It was a chilly day at the HQ, but it didn't deter the Trail Crew from getting some work done on last summer's projects.
The Crew spent the afternoon working on the log rides paralleling the HQXC loop and they are riding fine!

From the creative mind of your new Trail Crew leader Alek...Happy Holidays to everyone!
11/27/2025
The Trail Crew would like to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving and we are so thankful to have such a great following and group of volunteers who have made this one of the best seasons ever!
Unfortunately, with a look ahead, the temps are going to put the trails into the dreaded freeze-thaw cycle, so it is once again time to shut it down for the winter.
We wish everyone the best and safest holiday season and we hope to see you all next spring!

The Trail Crew had a great turnout of volunteers on Sunday and was able to complete several tasks.
Safety ramps were added to the Blue and Black drops to catch riders who may panic and grab their brakes just before dropping.
These ramps are for safety purposes only and are not intended to be riding ramps. Dropping these features is still the intent.
A new, smaller, 2ft drop was added to give riders a chance to practice their dropping techniques before moving up to the larger drops.
A big thanks to the volunteers and to all the riders for obeying the closure signs while the Crew did the work.
