The History of Us-A Timeline

Located just east of downtown Indianapolis, Willard Park is an 11 acre community hub for the ultimate family fun experience. Through the years, Willard Park has enriched the surrounding community since the 1800’s. Check out the timeline below to see how this park has impacted the city of Indianapolis and its residents.

William Willard, a deaf school teacher, sought the opportunity to provide educational opportunities for the hearing impaired. He transformed his near 15 acres of land into the Indiana School for the Deaf.

The Indiana School For The Deaf closes its doors and later relocates. During the same year, the City of Indianapolis purchases William Willard’s land

The City of Indianapolis began construction for the new neighborhood park, aptly named after its original owner, William Willard.
