With hearts full of gratitude and deep respect for the Korvals, the Gold Star family of Captain Seth R. Korval, many gathered today to remember the great man who was their son, husband, father and brother. He gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country while deployed to support Operation Epic Fury. He was a Purdue University graduate and served five deployments worldwide with the Indiana and Ohio Air National Guards. He was remembered for his integrity, courage, and the tremendous strength he had from faith in the Lord and the love of his family. What a great man, what a great loss — what a hero🇺🇸

A Mother’s Prayer…Lord, may your love flow freely through me to love my children joyfully and discipline them consistently. May our home be filled with love and laughter, purpose and conviction. Help me instill in them what is good and true and raise them up to know you as their Creator and our great need for you as our Redeemer. Help me to be patient and full of goodwill. I also ask for your wisdom to train them to be leaders filled with courage, integrity and charity. Only you know the challenges they will face in life, may I teach them to rely on you. And, only you know the heights of accomplishment they will achieve and may they give you, who made them wonderfully, all the glory. Thank you for the privilege of being their mother, and help me, Lord, to prepare them to do as much good as possible in their lifetimes as unto you. Amen.

On this National Day of Prayer 2026, it was good to gather at our State’s Capitol to beseech the Lord for His wisdom and blessing. In this 250th Anniversary of America’s independence, I thought it would be most fitting to share a prayer for our nation that General George Washington included in a letter to the states in 1783 after we had won the Revolutionary War. In it he described the weight they felt on their shoulders for the “destiny of unborn millions” to ensure this experiment in liberty would be successful.

Indeed, the experiment has been met with tremendous success, but with each generation there are significant challenges to overcome. In our time, one priority must be to restore our nation’s financial solvency, and just as Washington prayed, we need the Lord’s great help and love to fight for the preservation of this great country for our posterity.

Today, with those gathered, we joined to pray this prayer adapted from General Washington’s letter…

I now make it my earnest prayer, Lord keep the United States in your holy protection, incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of obedience to government, to entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another, for their fellow citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have served in the field. May you most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to give ourselves to that charity, humility and pacific temper of mind, which are the characteristics of you, the Devine Author of our blessed religion. And only with a humble imitation of your example in these things, can we hope to be a happy nation. So help us God. —- Amen

The states have lessons for Congress about the exploding national debt 05/07/2026

Honored to join The Hill with Jonathan Williams, president and chief economist of the American Legislative Exchange Council, for an op-ed to share how “states are coming to understand that every dollar sent to them is borrowed, and that it rests on their shoulders to solve this problem with our federal leaders.”

State Financial Officers Foundation - SFOF

The states have lessons for Congress about the exploding national debt Indiana determined two decades ago to turn around its poor financial position. It now holds a AAA credit rating and has passed the gold standard for balanced budget amendments.

U.S. Debt Tops 100% of GDP 05/01/2026

Alarming news from the Wall Street Journal: U.S. public debt has now topped 100% of GDP. This is a clear warning sign for our nation’s future. It’s time for Washington to follow the Hoosier model and turn our country’s finances around.

U.S. Debt Tops 100% of GDP Federal debt exceeding the size of the economy is a potent symbol of the gathering fiscal stresses on the U.S.

Grateful for the recognition of the good work happening in our state from State Financial Officers Foundation - SFOF.

Indiana is setting the standard for fiscal transparency and discipline.

Comptroller Elise Nieshalla is expanding access through the Indiana Transparency Portal and upholding fiduciary duty by removing China- and ESG-focused investments from retirement funds 🔍🇺🇸

These initiatives help Indiana maintain a AAA rating, low debt, and a balanced budget.

Strong oversight. Strong results 💪

Another MPH Data Day in the books! Always great to share how the Indiana Transparency Portal (ITP) helps Hoosiers access clear data about how state tax dollars are used — and there’s more to come!

In a few short weeks we’re excited to launch a brand new Federal Funding Expenditures Dashboard on ITP, providing easier accessibility to information dedicated solely to how federal dollars are used by Indiana state agencies. Stay tuned!

In a ceremonial bill-signing last week, Governor Mike Braun signed SEA 14 into law, which raises the state’s match for the employee deferred compensation plan, which our office administers, from the original amount of up to $15 per paycheck started 26 years ago to the present-day value of up to $28. This was done in a budget-neutral manner (at no extra cost to taxpayers!) and received unanimous, bipartisan support from both chambers of the Indiana General Assembly. Pending approval from the State Budget Committee, state employees can look for an increase in their match amount after Dec. 31, 2026. A special thank you to bill author Sen. Linda Rogers, Rep. Jake Teshka, and Rep. Ed Clere.
