Creating Connection π§‘
When children feel emotionally dysregulated they often need calm adults more than immediate consequences.
Sometimes the most supportive response is:
β¨ sitting beside them quietly
β¨ helping them slow their breathing
β¨ staying calm even when emotions are big
β¨ reminding them theyβre still loved during hard moments
Children borrow regulation from the adults around them. π

Sometimes βbad behaviorβ is really:
π₯ Overwhelm
π Anxiety
π Frustration
π Sensory overload
π Difficulty communicating needs
Instead of asking, βWhatβs wrong with them?β
Try asking, βWhat might they be trying to tell us?β Curiosity and understanding help us respond with support, not just reaction.

A few minutes of focused attention can mean everything to a child. π§‘
Try:
π reading together
π² playing a quick game
πΆ taking a short walk
π¨ coloring side-by-side
While big gestures are great, they can also feel overwhelming. Try starting small and staying consistent. Even 10 minutes a day of intentional time can help you connect on a deeper level.

When emotions feel BIG, try this simple calming exercise:
π Slowly trace one hand with the other finger
β¬οΈ Breathe in going up a finger
β¬οΈ Breathe out going down
π Repeat as needed
Slow breathing helps signal safety to the brain and body 𧑠We cannot always control what happens to us, but we can control our response. Let us know below if you try this out!

Before correcting behavior, try:
β¨ getting down to their level
β¨ speaking calmly
β¨ validating feelings
β¨ listening without rushing
Connection helps children feel emotionally safe, and emotional safety supports growth. π€

Connection doesn't have to be complicated π§‘
Sometimes the most meaningful conversations happen:
π during car rides
π½οΈ while eating together
π¨ during quiet activities
π at bedtime
Try asking:
β¨ βWhat made you smile today?β
β¨ βIf you could replay any part of your day, what would it be?β
β¨ βIf today had a theme song, what would it be?β
Small moments of connection build trust over time. Sometimes all we need is a light-hearted question to open that door.
