UPDATE: Indiana State Police confirmed IMPD SWAT officers took the suspect, 47-year-old Kenneth Johnson, into custody around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Ofc. Brian Elliott died from his injuries, and another officer is "stable" and expected to survive their injuries, according to police.

UPDATE: Eskenazi Health confirms to 13News that two officers are being treated for gunshot wounds in the emergency room, as police search for an armed suspect in Beech Grove.

Sergeant McQueen leads by example every day through his dedication, integrity, and strong work ethic. His positive influence on officers and the community reflects the best of our profession.

Black History Month is a time to honor the individuals whose leadership and service have helped shape our organization and our future. We are grateful for Lieutenant Gaines and Sergeant McQueen and the impact they continue to make.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) activated at 12 p.m. today to coordinate the state's response to the incoming winter storm.

This activation brings additional subject matter experts from other state agencies and external partners into one location to facilitate an effective, direct and coordinated response to the winter storm impacting the state.

Governor Mike Braun also activated highway assistance teams from the Indiana National Guard to respond to some areas expecting dangerous road conditions as a result of the storm.

IDHS encourages all Hoosiers to do their part to prepare for the storm. Visit GetPrepared.in.gov for winter storm travel and safety tips.

👮Meet Chief Brandon Pate!👮

Chief Brandon Pate brings 19 years of dedicated law enforcement experience, with the past decade spent serving the University of Indianapolis community. As Chief of the University of Indianapolis Police Department and Director of Public Safety, he leads with a commitment to campus safety and student well-being. Chief Pate is also a Master Instructor certified by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board.

A proud UIndy alumnus, Chief Pate takes great pride in giving back to his alma mater by helping foster a secure and welcoming environment for all.

Outside of his professional role, he enjoys riding motorcycles, practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and spending quality time camping with his family.

His advice to students: “Enjoy the time you have here. Make friends, attend games, go to events, and learn as much as you can!”
