NATIONAL SAFETY MONTH – JUNE 2026

June marks the 30th anniversary of National Safety Month, an annual campaign led by the National Safety Council (NSC) to promote safety awareness and help prevent injuries both at home and in the workplace.

Throughout the month, the NSC focuses on topics such as roadway safety, workplace wellness, emergency preparedness, and preventing common accidents like slips, trips, and falls. The organization offers a variety of free resources designed to help individuals, families, and employers create safer environments.

Community members are encouraged to visit the National Safety Council’s website to access free safety toolkits, educational materials, checklists, emergency preparedness resources, workplace safety guides, and defensive driving information. These tools can help identify potential hazards, improve safety awareness, and promote safer habits in everyday life.

By working together and staying informed, we can help keep our homes, workplaces, and roadways safer for all.

For additional information and safety resources, visit the National Safety Council at www.nsc.org.

Meet Dazzle ✨

Dazzle is a 6-year-old Labrador mix searching for a loving forever home. Although she was previously adopted, she recently returned to the shelter through no fault of her own and is ready for a fresh start.

This smart girl already knows several commands including sit, shake, high five, and lay down. Dazzle also keeps a very clean kennel and appears to be house trained. She seems to do well with other dogs, and shelter staff can assist with a meet and greet for potential adopters with other pets.

If you are interested in giving Dazzle the loving home she deserves, please stop by the shelter and meet her. 🐢 Vincennes Animal Shelter

With school officially out for the summer and Rainbow Beach now open, we would like to remind motorists and community members to remain alert and use extra caution throughout the city, especially near parks, playgrounds, neighborhoods, and recreational areas where children will be present in larger numbers.

Children may be walking, riding bicycles, crossing streets unexpectedly, or playing near roadways during daytime and evening hours. Drivers are encouraged to reduce speeds in park zones and residential areas, eliminate distractions while driving, and remain vigilant for increased pedestrian traffic around Rainbow Beach, Gregg Park, and other public gathering areas.

Let’s work together to help ensure everyone has a safe, enjoyable, and memorable summer season. πŸš“β˜€οΈ

The Vincennes Police Department would like to help share information regarding the upcoming Vincennes Fire Department Kids Safety Camp, which will be held June 29–30 at Wabash Trails Park for children ages 9–12.

This event provides a great opportunity for children to learn valuable safety skills in a fun and interactive environment while building positive relationships with first responders throughout our community. Programs such as these help educate our youth on important topics including fire safety, emergency preparedness, teamwork, and overall personal safety.

We encourage parents and guardians to consider signing their children up for this educational and engaging community event. The Vincennes Police Department appreciates the Vincennes Fire Department and all participating agencies for their continued commitment to keeping our community’s youth safe, informed, and prepared. πŸš”πŸš’

There is still time to enroll your children in a camp this summer that will teach them all kinds of safety skills.

Meet Lucky. 🐢

Lucky is a 7-year-old male shepherd mix who came to the shelter under heartbreaking circumstances. After his previous owners moved away, Lucky was unfortunately left behind in a backyard for over a month without food or water. Despite the neglect he endured, Lucky has continued to show nothing but kindness, resilience, and a desire for love and attention.

Lucky is currently heartworm positive, but he will be receiving the life-saving treatment he needs through the shelter, and has officially started heart worm treatment. At this time, staff are unsure how he interacts with other animals, however, meet and greets with other dogs can be arranged for potential adopters.

This intelligent boy already knows several commands, including sit, shake, lay down, and speak. Through everything he has overcome, Lucky has truly lived up to his name.

The Vincennes Police Department would like to encourage our community to consider giving shelter animals like Lucky the second chance they deserve. After everything he has been through, Lucky is ready to experience what a safe, loving, and permanent home feels like.

Please stop by the shelter to meet Lucky and help give this deserving boy the fresh start he’s been waiting for! Vincennes Animal Shelter
