Some pretty exciting things are happening here in Green Lake Township!
For more than 20 years, the Green Lake Township Board of Trustees, Parks and Recreation Committee, Interlochen DDA, and Interlochen Center for the Arts have been working toward a vision of creating a non-motorized trail connecting Memorial Park with the village center.
This fall, that vision finally started becoming a reality!
Thanks to the efforts of Trustee Pat McDonald, Supervisor Marv Radke, the Interlochen DDA Board, Green Lake Township Parks and Recreation, the Interlochen Center for the Arts, AJ's Excavation, and everyone who has helped move this project forward, construction on the trail is underway.
The trail currently extends from Memorial Park all the way to Vagabond Lane.
Later this fall, work is expected to continue from Vagabond Lane to near the edge of the Interlochen State Park property. Another section will extend from the opposite side of the State Park property toward the creek near Kate's Sweet Shop.
After more than two decades of planning, conversations, partnerships, and persistence, it is exciting to finally see dirt moving and this trail taking shape.
It's just one of the many exciting things happening right now in Green Lake Township, and I can't wait to see people walking, running, and biking this trail in the future!
