Snow Days & Utility Locates — What You Should Know ❄️
That moment when you want to do your job… but Mother Nature says “not today.” Heavy snow and frozen ground can delay utility locates, and here’s why — and how you can help:
When snow slows locates, please:
• Be patient — safety and accuracy come first
• Clear snow from the area where work is planned (driveways, yards, dig sites)
• Avoid digging until all utilities are properly marked
• Plan projects with extra time during winter weather
• Remember: rushing a locate can be dangerous for everyone
Utility locators aren’t avoiding work — they’re avoiding injuries, damaged lines, and outages. Your patience helps keep crews safe and neighborhoods powered. 💡⚠️

Good morning. A mandatory evacuation is now in effect for all visitors to Ocracoke and Hatteras Islands due to the approach of Major Hurricane Erin. A mandatory evacuation for all residents of Ocracoke and Hatteras Islands goes into effect tomorrow morning.
We cannot put this more bluntly: we now EXPECT there will be times over the next week that NC12 becomes impassable due to significant ocean overwash. In a worst-case scenario, the highway could be closed for several days. Please heed the evacuation orders and keep you and your family safe.
