A life jacket can’t save your life if it’s floating on top of the water and you’re sinking to the bottom. Having a life jacket on your boat, even if it’s “readily accessible,” is not good enough. so you can enjoy boating another day.

A major step forward for coastal resilience in Pinellas County.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District and Pinellas County signed an updated Project Cooperation Agreement establishing a new framework for continued federal participation in the Pinellas County Shore Protection Project.
The agreement provides greater certainty for future beach nourishment efforts at Sand Key, Treasure Island, and Long Key by addressing longstanding easement and public access issues that had delayed future nourishment cycles.
The project helps reduce erosion and storm damage risks along approximately 21 miles of shoreline while protecting infrastructure, supporting public beaches, and strengthening coastal communities.
“This agreement establishes a clear and sustainable path forward for continued federal participation in the Pinellas County Shore Protection Project,” said Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Adam Telle.
The updated framework also supports the beneficial use of dredged material as part of USACE’s regional sediment management and coastal resilience mission.

The Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Adam R. Telle is visiting Florida today to meet with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers leaders and partners at Jacksonville Port Authority and Port Tampa Bay.
The visit highlights the critical role Florida’s seaports play in strengthening America’s economy, supporting national security, and maintaining resilient supply chains.
At JAXPORT, discussions focused on the Jacksonville Harbor Navigation Project, a transformational investment that deepened portions of the federal channel from 40 to 47 feet, improved vessel access, enhanced navigation safety, and increased efficiency for maritime commerce. The project included construction of a larger turning basin at Blount Island Marine Terminal, widening key channel segments for two-way vessel traffic, and removing more than 12 million cubic yards of material to accommodate larger vessels serving the region.
The visit also highlights the importance of continued maintenance dredging and dredged material management efforts that keep federal navigation channels open, reliable, and economically competitive.
As the Army’s senior civilian official responsible for the Civil Works program, Assistant Secretary Telle’s engagement reinforces the commitment of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to deliver nationally significant infrastructure projects faster, more efficiently, and with greater value to the American people.
This event was hosted by The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District, with the District Commander Col. Brandon L. Bowmen and USACE Maj. Gen. Jason E. Kelly, Deputy Commanding General for Civil and Emergency Operations, in attendance.
Through strong partnerships with non-federal sponsors, industry leaders, and port authorities, USACE continues advancing navigation improvements that strengthen supply chains, support economic growth, and enhance national readiness.

Lido Key Beach is stronger and more resilient following the completion of a major beach renourishment project led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,Jacksonville District in partnership with the City of Sarasota and Sarasota County.
The project placed approximately 300,000 cubic yards of sand along 1.2 miles of critically eroded shoreline using material generated from the federally funded New Pass navigation dredging project — maximizing value for taxpayers while protecting coastal infrastructure, tourism, recreation and habitat.
Why is this project important? It is about reducing storm damage risk, protecting infrastructure, supporting tourism and recreation, preserving habitat, and helping ensure this community remains strong in the face of future coastal challenges.
