**From James J. Morton, President of the Duval County Democratic Black Caucus:**
I stand in unwavering support of Congressman Al Lawson and the powerful message he continues to deliver. As a Black man, a community leader, and a son of the segregated South, Congressman Lawson has lived through the darkest chapters of our nation’s history, and his voice is one we must heed in these critical times.
The Civil Rights Act, a transformative law that lifted so many of us, paved the way for individuals like Al Lawson to serve our communities and this country with dignity and distinction. It opened the doors to opportunities, allowing Black Americans to pursue the American Dream that had long been denied. Congressman Lawson’s story is one of triumph over adversity, and it is a story that millions of Black Americans share.
I join Congressman Lawson in condemning the hateful and divisive rhetoric of far-right figures like Charlie Kirk, who have discredited the Civil Rights Act and tarnished the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Kirk’s claims of a “war on white people” and his association with white supremacists are not only dangerous but an outright affront to everything we have fought for. His attempts to divide our country cannot be ignored, nor can Senator Rick Scott’s continued association with him.
Senator Scott has a choice to make—a choice to either stand on the right side of history or align himself with individuals who promote hate and division. As the president of the Duval County Democratic Black Caucus, I am calling on Senator Scott to reject this destructive agenda and uphold the promise he made to represent all Floridians, including the more than 3 million Black residents of our state.
We cannot sit idly by while our progress is under attack. The Civil Rights Act didn’t just benefit Black Americans; it strengthened our entire nation by breaking down the barriers that once divided us. We must protect the legacy of this monumental achievement and those who fought for our freedom. I stand with Congressman Lawson, and I will continue to fight for the values that unite us, not divide us.
This is our time to rise, to defend the progress we’ve made, and to ensure that hate has no place in Florida or this nation. Senator Scott—it’s time to make the right choice.

Thank you, President Joe Biden, for your unwavering dedication and service to our nation. Your leadership and commitment to justice, equality, and progress have profoundly shaped the course of our country. The nation is eternally grateful for your tireless efforts to uplift all Americans, particularly the African-American community.
Under your administration, we have witnessed historic milestones. Your steadfast support for the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, your decisive actions through the American Rescue Plan to advance economic opportunities, and your historic appointments of African-Americans to key positions in your administration are just a few examples of your unwavering dedication to our community. You have shown an unyielding commitment to dismantling systemic racism and fostering a society where everyone has a fair chance to succeed.
Now, more than ever, the Democratic Party must be united in our mission to defeat Donald Trump and continue the fight for a more equitable and just society. The Duval County Democratic Black Caucus remains steadfast in our dedication to equality and equity. We are committed to moving the party forward, ensuring that the progress we have made is not lost.
