On October 19th, 2026 at approximately 6:15pm, members of the Crime Reduction Team (CRT) were in the 500 block of W Paterson Street conducting a directed patrol to combat recent gun violence. Two juvenile males in the group were observed possessing fi****ms. One of the males was known to CRT from a previous case involving illegal fi****ms.
Contact was made with the two juvenile males in the 600 block of William Street, and they immediately fled on foot upon police contact. While running through a back yard both males discarded their fi****ms, which were quickly collected. The juvenile males were taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.
The 15 and 16-year-old juvenile males were lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile home for weapons offenses and resisting and obstructing.
CRT is aware of an assault that occurred just prior to contacting the armed juveniles. A search was conducted for the victim of the assault after the males were taken into custody, however, the victim was unable to be located. KDPS urges the victim of the assault to come forward and file a police report.
