Free Learning Activity:

Adapting the Transformation Economy to the Tourism Sector

Date & Time
Oct 29, 2026 10:00 AM

Description:
The Transformation Economy will be the subject of the next webinar in the Tourism Skillshop on Thursday, October 29, at 10 a.m. This book from bestselling author B. Joseph Pine II builds on his seminal work, The Experience Economy, to explain the next stage of how people assign value to goods, services, and experiences.

For tourism practitioners, applying this knowledge to product development and visitor engagement can yield a competitive advantage. As the transformation economy evolves, we will need to think more creatively and holistically, fostering deeper connections among people, places, and experiences. This expanded role encourages practitioners to embrace elements of destination stewardship, advocacy, and coaching to create transformational offerings. While this shift will require new ways of thinking and working, it can ultimately create greater value for visitors and communities while helping tourism entities differentiate themselves in a competitive marketplace.

This webinar will provide attendees with clear frameworks and real-world examples of the transformational economy. It will help them build customer loyalty, create premium value, and drive sustainable growth. Join the discussion with SWT’s Matthew Ozuna, Transformational Travel Council co-founder Jake Haupert, and other industry experts. This webinar will be recorded, shared with registrants, and posted to the SWT YouTube channel. Skillshop webinars are free and open to all tourism stakeholders.

UPDATE: As of 9:34 AM, the train has moved.

Please be advised that a BNSF train is currently stalled out on the tracks along Canal in downtown Kennewick. The intersection between Washington and Fruitland are at grade and motorist are unable to cross at those points.

You are able to cross at Gum and 397 from the cable bridge. If you’re coming from Richland, we encourage you to get off at the Edison exit and make your way to downtown Kennewick using Canal.

What is your first memory of hearing a Beach Boys song?

Maybe it was playing in the car with your parents. Maybe it takes you straight back to a summer vacation, a school dance, an old movie, or a radio station you listened to growing up.

On Sunday, July 19, Catch A Wave brings the sound of The Beach Boys to Clover Island for a waterfront summer concert filled with harmonies, surf songs, and music nearly every generation recognizes.

Bring the person who introduced you to these songs—or bring someone you want to introduce them to.

Tell us your Beach Boys memory in the comments, then tag the person who should come with you.
