Starting next week, Tennessee residents will be required to obtain burn permits due to the wildfire season.

Beginning October 15th, the free permits will be required before burning leaves, natural debris or conducting prescribed burns.

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry said the state averages about 1,000 wildfires each year, which burns approximately 18,000 acres.

The Department of Forestry administers the permits, which allows the agency to communicate when and where there are safe burning conditions.

The free permits can be obtained at Burn Safe Tn, with online permits issued seven days a week from 8:00 until 4:30.

Burning without a permit is a Class-C misdemeanor offense.

Fighting a fire and winning is satisfying, but helping your neighbor FD is truly a win! Good job to all heading off this cornfield fire before it spread into a couple of nearby un-cut fields.

Addressing the structure fire in Mason Hall last week. We have the page out time records, from 911 as well as time stamped photos that show we responded from Kenton to the scene in less than 12 minutes. That is an exceptional response time for us to get from home, to the station, grab gear and have an apparatus on the scene. Thanks Fire Fighters! Job Well Done! Thanks to the citizens that complimented us on the quick response and job we did. There were several comments made to this affect.
Also would like to say our mutual aid companies from Obion Fire Department, Troy Fire Dept and Rives Volunteer Fire Department had exceptional response times as well, and we are grateful for them!

The strongest heat dome on Earth right now is sitting on Tennessee.

Heat makes air swell. The hotter the dome, the higher the whole atmosphere stacks up.

Over Tennessee, the halfway point of the atmosphere is 19,665 feet up. That is higher than over the Sahara. Higher than the Middle East. Higher than anywhere else on the planet.

Nashville hit 100 yesterday and is forecast to do it again today.
