Happy Birthday to the United States Navy. ⚓️🇺🇸

Since October 13, 1775, generations of Sailors have answered the call to serve—at sea, ashore, and around the world.

Today, we recognize the men and women of the U.S. Navy, past and present, for their service, sacrifice, and commitment.

To every Sailor and Navy veteran in our community:

We’re up to 9 women registered for November 7 — and that number is growing. 👏🥋

But right now, none of those women have a match.

That’s exactly why waiting to see who else signs up doesn’t work.

Someone has to go first.
Someone has to make the bracket possible.
And once one person registers, it gives the next competitor a reason to jump in too.

This isn’t only a women’s division issue, either. We still have brackets across the tournament that need competitors.

Road to November 7 🇺🇸 | LEADERSHIP

Leadership doesn’t always look like being the loudest person in the room.

Sometimes it looks like stepping in when someone needs direction.
Staying calm when things get chaotic.
Helping someone else find the next move.
Setting the tone through the way you show up.

Jiu jitsu gives us opportunities to practice that constantly.

As teammates.
As coaches.
As competitors.
As the person someone else is watching when they’re not sure what to do next.

Leadership isn’t just about being in charge.

It’s about being someone others can trust when the moment gets difficult.

And that matters far beyond the mats.

On November 7, the BJJ community comes together to compete, connect, and help support Veterans Breakthrough programs that create opportunities for veterans through jiu jitsu, retreats, community, and purpose.

Road to November 7 🇺🇸 | CONFIDENCE

Confidence doesn’t mean knowing everything is going to go your way.

It means trusting yourself when it doesn’t.

Trusting the rounds you’ve put in.
Trusting your preparation.
Trusting that if the first plan fails, you can find the next one.

That kind of confidence isn’t built by telling yourself you’re ready.

It’s built through evidence.

Every hard round you finished.
Every bad position you worked out of.
Every time you were nervous and stepped onto the mat anyway.

Eventually, you stop needing everything to feel comfortable before you believe you can handle it.

Confidence comes from knowing you’ve done hard things before.

Sometimes the most powerful part of a retreat isn’t what happens during training.

It’s what happens between the rounds.

Around a fire.
During a meal.
In a conversation that starts casually and turns into something real.

One retreat participant described it this way:

“To feel that kind of trust amongst complete strangers has been the most surreal thing I have experienced.”

That kind of trust doesn’t happen because everyone has the same story.

It happens because people show up willing to listen, be honest, and let themselves be known.

Strangers become familiar.
Familiar becomes trust.
And trust creates community.

That’s what these retreats are about.

Creating space for connection that lasts long after everyone goes home.
