Let's have a real talk for a moment. Lifting weights is fun, seeing muscle growth, changes, etc is a good time.

But it's not enough.

To be adequately prepared for the fireground, we have to be willing to suffer. To do workouts that highlight our weaknesses.

And I think we can all agree, suffering is more fun when you're not alone.

I would highly encourage everyone to look in to the FIT to FIGHT FIRE patreon. It's cheaper than any other program I've found, and they release a new workout every day along with "vitamins for the mind", and discussions between members.

It's a community built around what we very firmly believe, that to be prepared for this job- we must be mentally, physically, and tactically prepared.

We're not the strongest, or the fastest, or the most well rounded in the group- but it doesn't matter. Every day, we sweat and suffer alongside many others to uphold the oath, and show up prepared. Check it out and suffer with us 🏴🤘

On point as always!

"It doesn't matter if they like you, they just have to respect you."

Um....sure man.

Its true.
They have to respect you.
Actually, they need to.

But more than respect or like they need to care for you.

You read that right.
Care.

"Serious attention or consideration applied to doing something correctly or to avoid damage or risk"

The crew makes the officer.
If they don't care about your well being, well, good luck.

How to you get a crew to take care of you?

Take care of them.

Deflect the bad stuff, promote the good stuff.

Complaining at the kitchen table?
Stop it.
Assigned a hard job?
Do the hardest part.
Have a rough call?
Listen to them.

A good, hardworking crew, that cares about each other is magical to see.

But be warned, it ain't easy.
You have to put in the work.

Always forward, always moving.

One of our mentors will be on the Firehouse Vigilance scrap! Don’t miss it!

Train or Die is owned by Matt Wallace and Devin Craig. Next week one of them will be on Firehouse Vigilance 's Weekly Scrap.

If you've ever wondered why we are the way we are, our belief system, or why Craig looks so angry tune in with your questions.

Expect tangents and rabbit holes aplenty.

Always forward, always moving.

🏴⚒

Steps are the work.
As high as you want to go.
Rather take the elevator?

It's out of order.

Escalators hurt the spirit.
Those big treadmill people movers?

Steal the soul.

Goals are not destinations.
They're landings.
Places for moments of reflection.

You can go as high as you want.
Or stop.
Sit there and talk about how good you are or what you've done.

But the ones that keep climbing, they can't hear you.

Relentless is a mindset.
Sweat is payment.
Hard work is the answer.

Want to be better?
Work.
Want to know more?
Work.
Want to bring out the best?
Work.

Stand up.
Breathe.
Take a step.

Then take another.
You have things to do.
We have places to go.

All the way up.

Always forward, always moving.

Tenacity: “the quality or fact of continuing to exist; persistence.”
We don’t usually touch tactics much in this page- there are plenty out there who are WAY smarter than we are in every facet of the fire service. That being said- this is one we feel passionate about and have something to say.
Survivability Profiling is garbage. The thought that we can gauge someone’s ability to survive from outside the space may seem like it has some logic to it, but it ignores one majorly important factor- the human tenacity for survival. We have all heard stories of “superhuman feats”, parents lifting cars, a man cutting off his own arm, another fighting a mountain lion, and so many more. There is NO way to accurately measure what someone may have done to survive from outside. I don’t know who said it originally, but we live by this- “If you can occupy the space with your TRAINING, and equipment, you do.” It’s on us to be ready to occupy the most hellish spaces, this means physically, mentally, and tactically. Go learn your district, and your job. That is all.
