With no end in sight of this government shut down, 42 million Americans have been feeling the struggle of SNAP not being enough. Luckily there is some help coming, however it won’t be enough. The only thing that will truly help is for the government to reopen. Stay tuned for a list of ways to feed your family and others in our county and surrounding ones.

With the the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office finalizing their contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), they have became the 15th county to do so after Bill Lee gave approval for partnerships back in August.
According to a Times study, there have been an average of 18 “arrests” a day in Tennessee since January 20th. That is a shocking 169% increase from 2024.

JCDP members showed up and voiced their opposition to the current administration's many illegal actions, punishing tactics and executive overreach which is currently harming citizens in East Tennessee. It was an uplifting gathering with lots of support from the drivers and passengers along Morris Blvd. In Morristown. Thanks so much for the Hamblen County Democratic Party for the organization and safety crew (several of whom were from our JCDP Executive Board).

A massive thank you to everyone who showed up to our 2025 Bean and Rib dinner tonight! An even bigger thank you to everyone who volunteered tonight whether that was setting up, cooking the food or serving it and staying to help clean up! We were accompanied by so many wonderful people tonight who helped raise money for future scholarships for Jefferson County students, as well as State Representative Gloria Johnson and Sheila for TN State Representative—District 11 who came out tonight speak to us and share a few words of wisdom. It was a great night!

This (along with unpopular cuts to Medicaid) is what Democrats are trying to prevent. Note that, despite the misleading narrative being shared on social media, ACA tax credits do not go to undocumented immigrants. Instead, the ACA tax credits directly benefit MILLIONS of American citizens, including many families in Tennessee.

Congressional Republicans would rather shut down the government than extend these tax credits to working families and undo the deeply unpopular cuts they've set in motion

Tennessee families could see health insurance costs double if Congress fails to act A new analysis from KFF shows insurers are proposing an average 18% increase nationwide in 2026. In Tennessee, premiums could rise by as much as 26%.
