In a world where girls are often told or believe they’re not enough, Girls on the Run is building confidence that lasts. 9 in 10 girls interviewed in our Alums Study said GOTR positively influenced how they see themselves. That self-confidence carries them forward as they navigate middle school, shaping how they show up at school, in social situations, and in their friendships. This quote from Gertrude Stein (February 3, 1874 - July 27, 1946) is our motivation this week. Stein was an American novelist, poet, playwright, and art collector.
"You look ridiculous if you dance. You look ridiculous if you don't dance. So you might as well dance."

On this Memorial Day, we're reflecting on this quote from First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt (October 11, 1884 - November 7, 1962) for
"Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being. With freedom comes responsibility."
Today, we honor the heroes who sacrificed their lives for our country and our freedom.

Etty Hillesum (January 15, 1914 - November 30, 1943) was a Dutch Jewish author of confessional letters and diaries documenting her religious journey and the persecutions of Jewish people in Amsterdam during N**i occupation. In 1943, she was deported and murdered in the Auschwitz concentration camp. Despite the horrors she faced, this quote shows how she embraced the small, sometimes discarded moments that bring peace and perspective.
"Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths, or the turning of our face to the sunshine."
