It is with determination and concern for our community that I announce my candidacy for the South Carolina House of Representatives. The people of the 114th District scored a powerful victory when we took this office away from the control of the establishment in Columbia, and we must ensure it stays in our hands.

I will dedicate my candidacy to ensuring that the working people of the district continue to have a representative willing to stand up to the entrenched majority in the capitol.

I pledge to fight against the special interests that dominate the halls of the statehouse today. The people of South Carolina are tired of their elected officials taking marching orders from out-of-state think tanks that demand we spoil our natural resources, sell out our children's education, and exploit our dedicated workers.

I want to offer my sincere thanks to everyone who supported and voted for me yesterday. I am very proud to have received the vote of 257 of my fellow Charlestonians.

Our vote is a sacred thing, and each one is precious. Your vote for me was a true sign of trust and I will honor that trust despite the outcome of the election. I was told by many people the different reasons they were voting for me and I will do my very best to make positive change in those areas and all the areas I have outlined in this campaign.

City councilman flew confederate flag, neighbors prove 10/26/2011

I find it disturbing that someone who is claiming to represent all the citizens of Charleston’s 9th District would choose to display such a divisive symbol in front of his home. It seems to be a pattern on the part of Mr. Alexander to claim the mantle of unity while putting one group of citizens above another. One of his signature efforts revolves around the premise that people who live in apartments need to be mentored on how to behave by the single-family home neighborhoods, and he proudly flies a symbol of oppression. Such actions do not represent someone who should represent our community in the city council.

The Charleston Jobs Action Plan
The Charleston–North Charleston Metropolitan Area had a 9.6 unemployment rate in August. This is unacceptable and we need to act now!
· City tax credits for businesses that hire local unemployed.
· Growing domestic and international exports for city products and services by linking local manufacturing businesses with the resources they need to export their goods.
· Increased funding for technology incubators such as the SCRA MUSC Innovation Center.
· Improvements to critical city infrastructure.
· Strong support for our Police, Fire Fighters, and Educators, to ensure a safe and well-educated workforce.
The Mayor is working hard to keep Charleston moving forward, but he needs a City Council that will work with him to develop innovative ideas to bring Progress for Charleston!

Watch the video of the first Forum of the Charleston 2011 Election. I managed to give those in attendance some very good reasons to vote for me and also some good reasons not to vote for the incumbent.
