Big crowds last week for the ribbon cutting for Haven on Main and the groundbreaking for Copper Rocks Development! Haven on Main is an independent living community in downtown La Crosse which blends accessibility and modern living in order to support Wisconsinites with and without disabilities alike. I am grateful to have been invited to the grand opening!

I was also glad to be invited to the groundbreaking for the Copper Rocks Development, which will turn the old K-Mart site into 247 new housing units and 20,000 square feet of commercial/community space. I cannot wait to see the finished project!

Thank you to Ho-Chunk Nation President Jon Greendeer (Mąąšusga), Tracy Littlejohn, Henry Greengrass, and all the other organizers and attendees for sharing your time, history, and culture with us and local school kids from La Crosse--we appreciate you! Wishing everyone a meaningful today.

October is 🩷 Early detection is one of the best ways we can improve breast cancer outcomes; the National Breast Cancer Foundation estimates that the 5-year survival rate for patients who were diagnosed at an early, localized stage is greater than 99%. With this fact in mind, I am especially glad that my colleagues and I were able to pass 2025 Wisconsin Act 103--also called Gail's Law--into law this session. Gail's Law is named after Gail Zeamer, who received a delayed breast cancer diagnosis and tragically passed before she had the chance to see this bill become law. Gail's Law requires health insurance policies to cover diagnostic breast exams and supplemental breast screenings for Wisconsinites who are at an increased risk of developing breast cancer and/or who have dense breast tissue. This Breast Cancer Awareness month, please take time to prioritize your health by consulting the American Cancer Society's recommendations for early detection and regular age-based screening recommendations to see if it's time to book an appointment--it could save your life!

Thank you to the Monroe County Climate Change Taskforce and the Western Area Association for organizing this year's Fall Tour! We got to see the Coulee Region Experimental State Forest, learn about the flood resilient Clear Span Bridge, hear about the biochar movement from West Fork Organics, and see the beautiful sights of the Melvina Floodplain as we learned all about the ongoing restoration efforts taking place. It's always a great day when I can get outside and enjoy the beautiful places and spaces our wonderful state has to offer🌳

We are halfway through ! In 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson established Hispanic Heritage Week to honor "the great contribution to our national heritage made by our people of Hispanic descent--not only in the fields of culture, business, and science, but also through their valor in battle." Two decades later, President Ronald Reagan expanded Hispanic Heritage Week to be a full 30-day national observation. Since this change in 1988, the U.S. has observed Hispanic Heritage Month as a way to celebrate the heritage, history, traditions, and culture of Hispanic Americans. Join me in honoring generations of Hispanic Americans as we celebrate their countless contributions to our nation. Unidos, somos más!

I had such an amazing time celebrating at the 2026 La Crosse Hmong New Year last weekend, organized by the Hmong Cultural & Community Center (HCCC). I got my picture taken with Miss Hmong Wisconsin, listened to traditional music, and participated in a game of Pov Pob--a game played during New Year celebrations! It was a wonderful experience I was honored to partake in; thank you to the HCCC for putting on such an important event each year. Nyob zoo xyoo tshiab!

Earlier this week, a few of my colleagues and I had the opportunity to tour La Crosse Seed and learn more about the work they do to support our agricultural industry, prioritize environmental stewardship, and supply high-quality seed to customers in La Crosse and beyond! Thank you for the great tour, and for welcoming us all to come and learn more about La Crosse Seed and your work 🌱

Today is 💜 An estimated 55 million+ people across the world are impacted by Alzheimer's disease; today, people across the globe are raising awareness about Alzheimer's disease in an effort to reject the stigma that individuals and their loved ones may feel when they receive a diagnosis. You can participate in World Alzheimer's Day by starting a conversation about Alzheimer's and dementia, volunteering/donating to an organization that assists individuals with Alzheimer's, or by participating in a Walk to End Alzheimer's near you! Visit https://www.alz.org/about/awareness-initiatives/world-alzheimers-day to find a Walk, learn more about World Alzheimer's Day, get involved, or see how the Alzheimer's Association is working to end Alzheimer's and dementia.

Congratulations to the Inland team on their Green Tier Company certification! The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has officially recognized and certified all of Inland's manufacturing facilities as Green Tier; Green Tier designations are used by the DNR to recognize organizations that go above and beyond to ensure they are compliant with environmental protections and committed to environmental stewardship. Thank you to the Inland team for the incredibly interesting tour today, and congratulations, once again!
