The Union High School Class of 2026 exceeded state averages in multiple areas of the ACT, according to the school’s recently released ACT Profile Report and College and Career Readiness results.

Of the 29 students who took the ACT, the class exceeded the state averages in both
composite ACT scores and superscores. This continued the long-standing tradition of Union students outperforming others around the state in these areas.

Union High School also exceeded statewide averages in the percentage of students meeting ACT college readiness benchmarks in English, math, and reading. These benchmarks indicate the likelihood of students earning a passing grade in corresponding introductory college courses.

“These results reflect the hard work and dedication of our students and the commitment of our teachers and staff to supporting academic success,” said Superintendent John Howard. “The Class of 2026 demonstrated strong academic achievement and continued growth, and these results highlight the preparation our students are receiving for success beyond high school.”

Individual student performance was also notable, with at least one student earning a score of 30 or higher in two of the three core testing areas: English, math, and reading. Students who took the ACT more than once improved their scores by an average of nearly two points per section.

Additionally, more than 80% of participating students completed the optional ACT science assessment, with an average score that exceeded the state average.

The ACT is a standardized assessment that measures academic achievement in English, math, and reading, with optional science and writing sections. Results are used to assess college readiness and provide information about students' academic preparation for postsecondary education.

Two National Honor Society seniors got the opportunity to volunteer on an Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity new build site. 🔨

Katie Jackson and Lucy Parson put their skills to the test and framed out a garage by hand!

The Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity provides affordable homeownership opportunities and improves the quality of homes for families and individuals in four neighboring counties (Black Hawk, Butler, Bremer and Buchanan), with their main building location in Waterloo.

Way to go, Katie and Lucy!

➡️ Know how drugs and alcohol affect the developing brain
➡️ Choose friends who share your values and support your goals
➡️ Stay busy with activities that challenge and fulfill you
➡️ Talk with a trusted adult if something feels off
➡️ Be the friend who helps others make good choices too

Let’s look out for one another this week and always! 🙌
