Not all rescues happen on an emergency call! 🐱🚒

While clearing a call, our Engine 761 A-Shift crew noticed a driver checking her vehicle and realized she needed a little help. Turns out, a tiny kitten had gotten itself stuck between the door and body panel of her car!

Our firefighters carefully worked to free the unexpected passenger, and after a successful rescue, the little one was treated to some much-needed water.

A little teamwork, a careful rescue, and one very lucky kitten! 🐾❤️

🔥 SOFT SURFACE? HARD PASS. 🔥

When charging your phone, tablet, laptop, or other lithium-ion battery-powered device, where you charge matters.

🛏️ Don’t charge on beds, couches, pillows, or blankets.
⚡ Charge on a hard, flat surface where heat can safely dissipate.
👀 Keep charging devices in sight and unplug them when they’re fully charged.

A simple change in where you charge can help reduce the risk of a battery fire.

Charge smart. Stay fire safe.

✈️🔥 ON A FLIGHT? KEEP IN SIGHT. 🔥✈️

This Fire Prevention Week, we’re reminding everyone that safe charging doesn’t stop when you leave home.

When traveling with phones, tablets, laptops, power banks and other lithium-ion battery devices:

🔋 Keep charging devices where you can see them.
🚫 Never charge a device under a pillow, blanket or other soft surface.
⚡ Use the original charger or one approved by the manufacturer.
👀 Pay attention to warning signs like excessive heat, swelling, cracking, unusual odors, hissing or smoke.
✈️ When flying, keep rechargeable devices and spare batteries with you as required by your airline—not in checked baggage.

A few simple habits can help prevent a battery problem from becoming a fire.

This Fire Prevention Week, charge smart. Travel smart. Stay fire safe.

🔥 Keep it in sight. Keep it safe.

🔋⚡ FULLY CHARGED? TIME TO UNPLUG.

It can be easy to plug in your phone, tablet or other device and forget about it.
But once your device is fully charged, unplug it.

Leaving a device plugged in can increase heat and stress on the battery.
💪 Make this simple habit part of your daily routine:
Charge → Check → Unplug.

That small action can help reduce the risk of battery-related fires.

🔥 Safe charging is a superpower!

🌡️🔋 FEELS HOT? STOP USING IT.

If your rechargeable device or battery feels unusually hot, don't ignore it.
Stop using it if you notice:
⚠️ Excessive heat
⚠️ Swelling
⚠️ A strange smell
⚠️ Leaking
⚠️ Smoke
⚠️ Popping or hissing sounds

These can be warning signs that a battery is damaged or failing.
If you notice a problem, stop using the device and keep it away from anything that can burn if it is safe to do so. If there is smoke, fire or an immediate danger, get outside and call 9-1-1.

🔥 When it comes to a hot battery, don't take a chance.

🔌⚠️ CHEAP CHARGER? DON’T CHANCE IT.

That bargain charger might save you a few dollars—but using the wrong charger can damage a battery and increase the risk of fire.

🔥 Choose safety:
✔️ Use the charger and cord that came with your device.
✔️ If you need a replacement, use one approved by the manufacturer.
✔️ Look for products that have been tested and listed by a nationally recognized testing laboratory, such as UL, ETL or CSA.

When it comes to lithium-ion batteries, the right charger matters.

💪 Make safe charging your superpower!

🔋🚲 FOR TOOLS AND RIDES, CHARGE OUTSIDE.

E-bikes, scooters and power tools contain larger lithium-ion batteries that store a lot of energy.

When charging these devices, charge them outside when possible and keep them away from doors, windows and other escape routes.

🔥 If a battery fails, a fire can grow quickly. Keeping larger battery-powered devices outside and away from exits can give you more time to get out safely.
Your charging superpower: Think about where you charge—not just when you charge.

🔋⚡ CHARGE INTO FIRE SAFETY — Safe Charging Is a SUPERPOWER! 🔥

During Fire Prevention Week, the La Verne Fire Department is reminding our community that safe charging is a superpower!

From smartphones and tablets to e-bikes, power tools, scooters and other rechargeable devices, lithium-ion batteries are part of our everyday lives.
But charging them incorrectly can create a fire hazard.

💪 Use your charging superpowers:
✔️ Use the charger and cord that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
✔️ Charge on a hard, flat surface.
✔️ Unplug devices when they are fully charged.
✔️ Keep large battery-powered devices away from exits.
✔️ Stop using a battery if it becomes unusually hot, swells, leaks, smells strange, smokes or makes unusual sounds.

Small actions. Big impact.
