We serve residents in the southwest corner of Lake County. Ela Township is 36 square miles and serves 45,350 residents within its border. Ela Township, established on November 6, 1849, is located in southwest Lake County, Illinois. Named after early settler George Ela, the township’s roots trace back to Isaac Fox, who donated one acre of land that became Ela Park—the original home of Ela Town Hall and township offices. Today, that historic site is home to the Ela Historical Society & Museum, while Ela Town Hall now operates at 1155 E. Route 22, Lake Zurich. Ela Township serves 40,000+ residents across 36 square miles, including all or portions of the communities of Barrington, Deer Park, Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer, Lake Zurich, Long Grove, North Barrington, and parts of unincorporated Palatine and Mundelein. Our township supports the community through a wide range of services, including the Offices of the Supervisor, Clerk, and Assessor, as well as Ela 50+, Health & Wellness, Youth Services, Cemeteries, and Highway/Parks. The Peace Pole was originally installed with the intent of representing universal messages of peace, unity, and goodwill. While it stands on Township property, it is not used by Ela Township for political purposes, nor does it serve as a communication channel for Township policies or positions. Ela Township remains nonpartisan in all of its functions, and we do not align with or support any group making political statements or excluding residents from participation. We are proud to serve our residents and strengthen the quality of life across Ela Township. Let’s stay connected!
