We welcome Floridians whether they're registered Republican, Democratic, NPA, or third-party. We don't have a problem with anyone's voter registration, we have a problem with the Polk County Republican Party Facebook account specifically spreading this post that involves a reference to Defund Oligarchy Blessed by Liberty - Polk-FL.
Updates on this post: We have spoken with the party leadership, while her reference to our content creator as a campaign volunteer is false, it was unintentional on the part of the party leadership to elevate her [what we consider false] statements when they were looking for an example.
Last year we started attending campaign events for candidates that appear on the local ballot in Lakeland and Polk County. Earlier this year one of our videos on a gubernatorial candidate went a tad bit viral. We received an influx of environmentally conservative, mostly Republican-leaning voters asking for more content on candidates, on campaign events, and on Florida-specific issues.
Our primary organizer made a pledge to attend as many events as possible and analyze as many candidates as she could to put together another "chisme-tical analysis" for 2026.
Now that schoolboard member is asking candidates to bring us under control. Because we outed their endorsed candidate as being in attendance at the JD Vance rally. Apparently, this DeSantis-appointee was supposed to be in the closet, yet sat in the front row hooting and hollering. We said we'd film all the candidates that we could find at the campaign event, . . . . AND WE DID IT! There are voters who may see a candidate at the JD Vance rally and think it's a good thing, and there are others who may see it as a bad thing. The point is to put the information out there so voters can decide.
So let's set the record straight on this misrepresentatio ln:
DOBL is nonpartisan and does not work for or volunteer for anyone's campaign. Individuals within our collective are free to volunteer for whoever they want and to belong to whichever party or no party. We have promoted and platformed Republican, NPA, and Democratic candidates. We are happy to engage with third parties as well.
Our chair, who does our "chisme-tical analysis" content, is not secretly volunteering for anyone's campaign. She has been asked by multiple people, and she has declined. If a candidate likes her content, she has no problem with them resharing/reposting/recycling it. She will continue asking hard questions and being critical when there is BS. No party, no candidate, no person will be "managing" her or "setting expectations" for her blogging or content creation.
We happily platformed Sam Neelam and Sarah Corona when they were running and encouraged people to engage with their ideas, regardless of party affiliation. Our members took time out of their personal lives to record and share content presenting Neelam and Corona as dynamic and nuanced individuals in centrist-leaning and left-leaning spaces. Meanwhile, all the Republican Party had to share was memes and an inability to differentiate between Corona and Wallace.
We promoted both Sims and Corona as our top first and second choice. We defended Neelam when people within his own party subjected him to racist and bigoted comments online. If Corona would have been the one to proceed to run-off instead of Sims, we would be full steam ahead endorsing Corona.
When people tried to talk about a certain candidate's chins, we called that behavior out as unacceptable. Thankfully there were very few comments that were body-focused, and those commenters received a response stating that we want people to criticize the ideas, not bodies, not skin color, not accent, not party affiliation, not age.
If you are unable to run a campaign or a political party's social media account without spreading lies about citizens that dare to criticize you, maybe you shouldn't be running things. And if you want to keep it a secret that you support JD Vance, maybe don't sit in the front row. We will continue to practice our right to free speech and chisme-tical analysis. Looking forward to posting our election week blog ✌🏼
