There’s a monument at Cascades Park in Jackson dedicated to the memory of those we lost to violent crime.

There is no cost to victims families. To help maintain the monument and pay for future plaques a special pancake breakfast is held every year as a fundraiser.

Residents came to Vincentian Hall at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church to enjoy pancakes, bacon and eggs and to donate to the project.

Names and pictures of more than one hundred people who died from violent crimes are honored on the monument.

Kristy Conley is the coordinator of the Victims Rights Unit in the prosecutors office. The Unit offers services to help victims and their families navigate the courts and other areas of the criminal justice system. Kristy and her staff do a great job with the monument and helping those going through very tough times.

Of course the hope is to never add any more names to the monument.

The Victims Rights Unit also holds a candlelight vigil and ceremony every year to remember those we lost.

From old military uniforms and equipment to an authentic military field hospital, it was a trip back in time at Michigan’s Military Heritage Museum in Jackson.

The museum holds several living history events throughout the year. Every time I attend one of these events I learn something new about our military history.

Reenactors dress up in period uniforms from several conflicts, the War of 1812, the Civil War, World Wars l and ll, the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Some traveled from Tennessee, Connecticut and across the state to help portray our history.
It’s always interesting to hear and see what our service members went through during past conflicts.

The Museum does an incredible job making sure we all remember our history and those who fought for our freedom while also honoring our living veterans and current military service members.

We love our manufacturing companies and one of our great companies is celebrating 50 years in business!

Family owned Lomar Machine and Tool Company based in Horton, Michigan held a special celebration at Ogma Brewing in downtown Jackson.

Ogma partnered with Lomar to create a 50th Anniversary special b**r called “Golden Glyph,” to mark the occasion.

Lomar designs and builds industrial machinery and tooling for several industries including automotive, aerospace, agriculture, HVAC, medical and defense.

Jim Geisman founded the company. His son Ron Geisman has run the company for more than 30 years, with Ron’s son also part of the leadership team.

I had the honor of presenting the Geisman’s with a special State Tribute recognizing 50 years in business.

Thank you for the dedication and hard work of everyone at the company.

Congratulations Lomar Machine and Tool!

We have so many wonderful businesses and non profit groups in our community and several were on display at the 2026 Jaxpo Business Showcase.

The annual networking event was held at the American 1 Credit Union Event Center. Businesses and residents had the chance to reconnect, get to know each other better and meet new companies.

Visitors had the chance to find out what products and services are available from companies and agencies in our region.

This is always a great event to highlight all our successful and thriving businesses and agencies.
We are so fortunate to have them in our community.

It was great visiting with everyone!

“Michigan in a New Era: How do we make Michigan a top 10 state?”

That was the theme of the 2026 Economic Summit in Jackson. The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and Accelerate Jackson hosted the event.

Business executives, community leaders, educators and others were at the American 1 Credit Union Event Center to listen to strategies and insight into our states economic future.

Jeff Donofrio, President and CEO of Business Leaders for Michigan talked about how to strengthen our local and state economies. Improving our educational system, offering more opportunities for young people, better and higher paying jobs, making it easier for businesses to operate and strategies to attract new businesses were some of the topics.

The importance of having a real plan and strategy was discussed. Jackson has done a great job with looking ahead. The Jackson Chamber, Accelerate Jackson, and other groups and community leaders have done an incredible job with Drive Jackson.

It’s a 20 year Vision Plan to revitalize the community, through better education, housing, job opportunities and strategies to get there. Partnerships and collaboration are the key to economic success. We’ll continue working together to keep our community and state strong!

It was a chance to meet your local Chelsea Area
Firefighters and learn about their jobs and the equipment they use to fight fires.

The Chelsea Area Fire Authority held its open house for the community!

There were games, food, fire safety demonstrations, first aid, CPR training and a close up look at whats inside a fire truck and ambulance.
It’s amazing to see all the equipment needed as a firefighter and to learn how it’s used.

Thank you to all our firefighters and first responders for all you do to keep us safe!

It’s a comedy show to bring awareness to everyone about disabilities and to show support for people with disabilities.

“The Inclusion Event: Connecting with Comedy,” was held at the Michigan Theatre in Jackson.

Hosted by disAbility Connections, this is the 30th year for the comedy show. Comedians with disabilities, seen and unseen, took the stage to talk about their personal experiences in a fun way while bringing attention to those facing disabilities. Michael Beers, Nina G., and Mean Dave all performed. Sign language and closed captioning were also available.

I was honored to present Jon Hart, Executive Director of disAbility Connections with a State Tribute recognizing the 30th Anniversary of the Comedy event.

The agency helps people with disabilities offering several services empowering them to live independent lives with resources and support.

Enlightening others about people with disabilities, understanding the issues they face, and showing support and ways to help through laughter! This is such a great event!

“Punchlines for Paws,” an evening of comedy to help our homeless pets.

The Cascades Humane Society in Jackson has been helping animals for 74 years.

There were so many wonderful auction items for pets and humans at the event and a lot of laughter. Comedian Dan Deibert provided the entertainment.

Cascades Humane Society offers shelter, medical care, food, adoption and other services while connecting pets with loving homes.

The money raised from “Punchlines for Paws” will go to continue caring for our homeless pets as they wait for a safe, loving, and forever home.
