Breastfeeding/ pumping moms you’re not alone. It may be tough at first but you got this.
Every drop counts and so do you. ❤️

How to survive the first few weeks of breastfeeding: advice from a mom who had a hard time with my first but redeemed it with my second

For every new mom who has been told breastfeeding “natural and easy and magical” and it actually felt really really hard, you’re not alone.. and sometimes it’s actually just super helpful to hear someone say that…

Step 1: Forget every Pinterest photo you’ve ever seen of a glowing mom nursing in a sunlit room. The reality? You, half-naked, leaking through every bra you own, crying while DoorDashing ni**le cream at 2 a.m.

Step 2: The first week isn’t “bonding.” It’s survival. Your ni**les will feel like they’ve been through a meat grinder and you will genuinely wonder if they’ll ever be recognizable again.

Step 3: Cluster feeding is not a cute term. It’s your baby holding you hostage for 5 straight hours while you wonder if you’ll ever stand up again or if this is just… life now.

Step 4: Everyone will say “it shouldn’t hurt if you’re doing it right.”
Cool. Love that for them. Meanwhile, you’re googling “can a baby bite without teeth” through tears.

Step 5: At some point, you will seriously consider throwing your pump out the window or dramatically announcing that you’re switching to formula. And you might. And that’s okay.

Step 6: You will start keeping snacks next to your bed, couch, and toilet like a feral little toddler because breastfeeding hunger is next-level.. staying hydrated and fed helps. also, breastfeeding a part of postpartum, give your body grace.

Step 7: Everyone makes it sound magical. It’s not. It’s messy, painful, exhausting, and HARD. The “magical” part comes later. Right now it’s just about making it through one feeding, one night, one day at a time.

Step 8: Someday you’ll be able to nurse without wincing, without crying, maybe even without thinking about it. But right now? You’re in the trenches. And you’re doing an amazing job, even if it doesn’t feel like it. It doesn’t have to feel like magic right away.

New parents lose 44 days of sleep during the first year of baby’s life 07/16/2019

New parents lose 44 days of sleep during the first year of baby’s life My son doesn’t always want to take a nap, but I always do. It’s a feeling that’s been hard to shake ever since I became a parent nearly two years ago. And while I’m persistently tired now, my fatigue levels were downright dangerous during those earliest days when I knew I was too sleep-depri...

MILK SUPPLY
Milk supply is one of the most common concerns among breastfeeding moms, because unlike with a bottle, you just can't tell how much milk your baby is getting. To make sure you're both on the right track, your pediatrician will monitor his weight closely, especially for the first several weeks.

In the meantime, pay attention to his diapers: He should have six to eight wet ones and at least two "seedy," mustard-colored stools daily by the time he's seven days old. Also keep this in mind: "As long as your baby is gaining weight consistently and his diapers show that he is eating enough, you can assume that he's getting plenty of milk," says Jeanette Panchula, R.N., P.H.N., I.B.C.L.C., a lactation consultant at the Solano County Department of Public Health and the California Department of Public Health's Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health division. If you're still concerned, schedule a weight check with your pediatrician.
