GBC Participates in the Greater Nevada ShakeOut!

Today, October 15, GBC’s Elko campus is participating in the annual earthquake drill to promote emergency preparedness and campus safety.

Thank you to Professor Shirley Muir and her diesel students for welcoming us into their class, and to Jeffrey Hills, Jeffrey Winrod, and University Police Officer Joseph Micke for organizing this important safety initiative.

As we close out Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re celebrating stories like that of Mary Avalos, who is honoring her mother’s immigrant journey through the Courageous Corazón award.

Inspired by her family’s experiences and her mother Rosario’s belief in education, Mary is helping the next generation of students pursue their own goals, carrying her family’s legacy forward in a meaningful way.

Drop, Cover, and Hold On! 📸
Our NSHE System Administration team joined students, faculty, and staff across Nevada for today's Great Nevada ShakeOut, taking a few minutes to practice what to do during an earthquake.
As you can see, our team had a little fun along the way! 😄 But the reminder is an important one: knowing what to do before an earthquake happens can make all the difference.
