Rachel Peace: I decided to run for Congress as a representative of the 4th District because we are at a turning point in this country. They have failed their constituents that they were meant to represent. I decided to channel my energy into becoming a part of the government, so that I would know that myself and my friends and my child and my family and my neighbors have someone speaking out on their behalf who actually have their best interests at heart, who understand the struggles that they are facing, and who is willing to do the work on their behalf.
We already have a healthcare system in our country that is disjointed and unfair, and now they are making it worse. They have decided to gut all of our healthcare, and use that money to fund wars and bombing little children overseas, and it's heartbreaking. And the question isn't if there's enough money, it's if there's a will to use that money in ways that helps people. I think right now we're seeing issues, from being able to afford your home, being able to afford childcare, to being able to afford groceries, gas, and more. How we're investing in old, dirty ways to power transportation instead of into the clean energy of the future that will create jobs for our kids that will keep our air and our ocean and our soil clean. We're seeing the AI data centers battle coming up all over. People don't want it, but the government doesn't want to listen because of billionaires and corporations behind it, and those are their donors. There are so many broken systems in our country, and the decisions that are made at the top impact the people here on the ground. We could change them if we had people who wanted to. I'm not the only one doing this. There's other candidates around the country who are regular people like me who are trying to take this power back for the people, and that is how we actually will make change happen, when we get rid of career politicians who've been bought and aren't working in our best interests anymore.
