Do you know about Question 2?
As many people are pointing out, there is a school funding cap question on the back of our November ballots.
It's called "Question 2” and it's being sold to make you think it will give you tax relief but it won't.
Why?
❌ IT WON'T LOWER OUR TAXES. New Hampshire pays the smallest share of school costs of any state: just 28% total, compared to a national average of 45%. Until that changes, our taxes will keep rising, cap or no cap.
❌ IT TAKES AWAY OUR LOCAL CONTROL. Districts have deliberative sessions or town meetings that give you time to ponder every budget and ask questions before you vote in March. Question 2 takes that away by making us vote now, before we even know what our school and admin budgets will be. And if we ever want a cap, NH law lets us vote on one ourselves. Make these decisions yourself, not Concord!
❌ IT COULD HURT OUR KIDS. When fixed costs go up and money is capped, cuts can land on classes, sports, music, and the buildings you’ve updated.
❌ IT'S TOO CONFUSING. Question 2 mixes two questions with only one vote: one about schools and one about district administration.
✏️Even if you want to, you can't say yes to one and no to the other. That alone is a basic reason to vote NO.
✏️Skipping it isn't a safe choice. Skipped questions aren't counted, so only a NO vote helps stop it.
Check your community calendars to see if they will be hosting public sessions on Question 2.
The more you know, the more informed you will be and understand why NO is the most important way to stop Concord’s overreach.
