What makes this endorsement especially meaningful to me is the Carpenters’ commitment to second chances. Through programs like BOOTS, Brothers’ Keeper, and Career Connections, they help people overcome difficult pasts and build lasting careers with valuable skills, union wages, and benefits. Their work even extends into correctional facilities, creating pathways to employment for people returning to their communities.

After more than a decade as a public defender, I’ve seen firsthand how access to meaningful employment can transform lives. A second chance should come with a real opportunity to succeed.
