Accidentally dropped about a 2-inch kerf into this floor joist while working in the bay. It’s not all the way through, but it’s definitely deeper than I’d like and I don’t want to ignore it if it could weaken the joist over time.
My first thought was to fill/shim the cut so there’s no gap, then scab both sides with plywood or dimensional lumber and fasten it properly across the damaged area. Curious what others would do here—would you sister/scab it, use plywood gussets, add blocking, or call this minor enough to leave alone? Looking for practical repair advice before I close anything up.

Homeowners thought this covered deck addition would transform their backyard, but uneven supports and rushed framing are already sparking complaints online. After investing around $35,600, they expected professional-quality work — not visible alignment issues before completion. ⚠️ Elevated structures demand accurate engineering and strong support systems. Ignoring small framing mistakes now can lead to dangerous structural problems later.

settle this debate - which is correct?
In true r/decks fashion. I asked a question about hurricane ties and ended up getting a debate between people if the hangers on the rim joist should be oriented in 1 or 2
