Rotary LA5’s Loresa volunteered at the 33rd Annual YMCA Stair Climb & Urban Hike, supporting a day that brought thousands of Angelenos together for community and connection.

Led by fellow Rotarian and YMCA Executive Director Carol Phankoche, the event was also supported by LA5 members Brenda, Michael, Nicolas, and many others.

FROM RESCUE TO SERVICE 🐾

We were grateful to hear from Shelter to Soldier co-founders Graham and Kyrié Bloem, who shared more about the journey ahead and what they look for when selecting a future service dog.

Rotary LA5 joined Shelter to Soldier at Wags & Walks to help select a rescue dog for an incredible new journey.

After meeting and evaluating two wonderful dogs, Guava and Gertie, Guava was selected as the strongest candidate to move forward with additional assessment and training toward becoming a service dog.

Through Rotary LA5’s sponsorship, her adoption, training, housing, and eventual placement will be supported along the way.

For Guava, this is just the beginning. ❤️🐶

A New Journey Begins 🐾

Rotary LA5 joined Shelter to Soldier at Wags & Walks to help select a rescue dog who will train to become a service dog and bring support and companionship to a veteran.

We met two wonderful dogs, Guava and Gertie, and after spending time getting to know them, Guava was selected to begin her next chapter with Shelter to Soldier. ❤️

From shelter dog to future service dog, we’re excited to follow Guava’s journey and the life she may one day help change.

Last Friday at Rotary LA5, we had the pleasure of welcoming Larry Namer, Scott Page, Akash Kumar Panda, and Tony Materna for a thoughtful conversation about how AI is changing the way we create, work, learn, and connect.

What made the afternoon special wasn’t just the technology—it was the exchange of ideas, questions, and perspectives across the room.

As AI continues to move forward, the conversation reminded us that curiosity, creativity, connection, and human judgment matter more than ever.
