The TASTE of SOUL FESTIVAL!
CRENSHAW DISTRICT, LOS ANGELES! There’s no other place on earth where you will bump into folks from EVERY PHASE of your life!
“Every year, over 300,000 attendees fill the iconic Crenshaw Boulevard (the Mecca of Black Culture and Business)”! To know Los Angeles and L.A. traffic, this is a monumental feat! Shutting down Crenshaw Blvd. on a Saturday is almost equivalent to shutting a freeway in most other cities! Huge congrats to Danny Jr Bakewell, The L.A. Sentinel newspaper and the many vendors for another great event! Keep an eye out —Video coming soon !!

REPOST:
Financial reports are out for candidates…LAUSD BD1 candidate finance Report overview…
DEWAYNE DAVIS
Despite getting in the race months after others, brought in the most money ($33,490), has the most cash on hand (31, 462) and brought in the most donors powered by small dollar donations. Definitely shows fiscal discipline and good stewardship of campaign finances w/minimal expenditures.
DIDI WATTS
came in second
Money w/ $32,729
Cash in hand $25,740
Powered vastly by Charter supporters and organizations (who all maxed out) and donors Drew Furedi, Parker Hudnut, the Lunquists, the Landers, the Pla’s, Caprice Young
Definitely a charter takeover attempt for the area, especially recognizing the candidate recently moved into the area less than 3 months ago. She and Dan Chang (BD3 candidate) together will return the district to a charter majority on the board.
SHERRY NEWBILL
A distant third in money raised ($8,375) and on hand ($6066) but actually has more debt than cash to pay debt creating a NEGATIVE balance of $5,800
Newbill is the incumbent’s endorsed candidate and unable to capitalize on his name with the community. One would think the candidate would have a respectable showing based on that fact alone, however the community and civic leaders have not embraced her. Candidate seems to be taking for granted and expecting Union support but is not putting in enough effort to earn their support/dollars
KAHLID AL-ALIM
A close fifth with $8,105 and has $7,193 on hand.
Know this is ONLY the beginning of a long expensive fight for our community! Donations and support WILL BE NEEDED throughout in order for us to “make good on our promise” to prepare students to be productive citizens in our community AND change the trajectory that we all SEE we are headed towards.
CONTINUE to support our campaign in words and actions!! We can…We MUST get “Back to school”!!!
