Picture on the right is my good friend John Thomas. John is a retired LAPD Lieutenant. Crenshaw high class of 1980! Keeper of the Black History of the trailblazers on the LAPD. My fellow historian of Black public safety in Los Angeles going as far back as 1889! We'll both be at the AA Firefighter Museum on this Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 1pm to 4pm, for the continuing of our speakers series highlighting the contributions on Black Police Offices in L.A. especially in the Central Ave corridor!

Please come out and support this speakers series! This is the first time we have featured the Black History of LAPD with a schedule of speakers. We'll have 2 more after this one.

Please join us next Sunday, June 23, 2024 at the African American Firefighter Museum for our annual "Arnett Hartsfield Day." This is the day we remember and honor a true legend and his men. We will also pay homage to those men that integrated the Los Angeles Fire Department during the mid 1950s. Arnett's grand daughter Krystle Hartsfield, will show an amazing video tribute she created to honor her late grand father. This event is free and open to the public especially to those firefighters that have a love of history and believe in respecting the shoulders of the giants we stand on today. Please see the RSVP info on the attached flyer. The program will start at 2:00pm. Hope to see you there.

Last Thursday, the students at the Dorsey High School Fire and EMS Magnet program had their annual Fire Department Inspection, conducted by Assistant Fire Chief Justin Moore. After the inspection, the students marched through the campus to the Auditorium out in front of the school, for pictures and a brief inspirational message from Chief Moore and Captains Smith and Garcia from the Department's Recruiment Section.

Let's take a moment to highlight and congratulate the accomplishments of Ms. Naima Davis.

Ms. Davis was the Fire Chief at Dorsey High School for the class of 2022 during the second semester. Naima started with the Junior Firefighter Youth Foundation as a 5th grader at Tom Bradley Elementary School in the Junior Fire Cadet Program.

She went onto Audubon Junior High, then on to Dorsey High School. She is now a freshman at California State University at Northridge and she is a member of the Los Angeles City Fire Department's Crew 3, a volunteer wildland firefighting unit. She also participated in the Los Angeles County Fire Department's Women's Fire Prep Program. She is being congratulated by Battalion Chief Sara Rathbun, one of the original instructors and now lead of the Program.

The Foundation provided a scholarship to cover the cost of her EMT certification test. Naima is on her way to becoming a professional firefighter very soon. We can't wait! Captain Burton and the Foundation team are very proud of this determined young lady!

Congratulations, Naima!
