Land, Sea and Air is a great active indoor game. We love that it is a screen-free way to stay active.

WHAT YOU NEED

* Tape (optional), or a bit of floor in which two distinct areas are laid out. Painter’s tape is best because it usually comes up easily. But test an area of your floor, if you are concerned.

HOW TO PLAY LAND, SEA & AIR

* First, determine which part of the floor is “land” and which is “sea”. If you are using tape, lay down a long piece. The area in front of the tape is “sea”; the area behind the tape is “land”.

* Next, in the mode of “Simon Says,” you need one person to be the leader.

* The leader calls out one of three directions: Land, Sea, or Air. When they say, “Land!” kids jump into the land area. When she says, “Sea!” kids jump into the sea. When she says, “Air!” kids jump as high into the air as they can.

The best part? There are no losers, everyone is a winner!

Play continues until everyone collapses on the ground laughing.

VARIATION: You can surprised the kids a couple of times with random commands like, “Tornado!” “Earthquake!”, to which they invented their own movements.

FOR KIDS WHO HAVE TROUBLE STANDING:

* Kids in a wheelchair who can move their chair independently can go forward, backward, and then choose an alternative motion for “air.” Perhaps raise their arms, or let out a yell, or other motion/sound they can make.

* Another alternative would be to clap hands forward, behind the back, or over the head. Or clap side to side.

* Additionally, use sounds for each motion instead.

Remember to have FUN!

Today’s spotlight is Ruthy Hebard. Hebard took part in the virtual draft from her hometown of Fairbanks, Alaska, where she was surrounded by her family. While she grew up in Alaska, she was born in Chicago and returns to her birthplace to begin her professional career.

“I was kind of thinking like oh, Chicago picked me, it would be so cool to not only play for a great team but just to be able to see and learn a little more about Chicago, where I was born and stuff like that,” she said.

We're closing City parks from the evening of Saturday, April 11 to the morning of Monday, April 13. We know this is a time of the year when many of our families and friends celebrate Easter by getting together outdoors –– but we just can’t take any chances right now. We need to protect our families and our communities from the spread of COVID-19.

Vladislav Rastorotsky makes a great point! This is with anything, being talented is not enough. It accounts for something, however the majority of being great takes hard work!⁣

Don’t be afraid to work hard even if it’s uncomfortable. ⁣

Check out the work these girls put in during practice at Hollenbeck’s Ballet, Tumbling and Gymnastics class. ⁣
