On Sept. 18, LA Animal Services was alerted to a residence in Wilmington where upwards of 100 dogs were reportedly housed. LA City Animal Control Officers arrived at the location and discovered 30 dogs in relatively good health.
Five of the dogs were removed on Sept. 22 and transported to the Harbor and West Valley shelter locations. Veterinary staff evaluated the animals, confirmed they were healthy, and scheduled them for spay or neuter surgeries. These small-breed dogs are a little timid when you first meet them, but once they warm up they are playful pups full of fun energy. Visit our Harbor, West LA, and West Valley Centers today to meet and adopt these dogs.
Since our initial response, LA City Animal Control Officers have established a positive rapport with the owner who has agreed to voluntarily surrender all the dogs to LA Animal Services. To manage intake responsibly and avoid overburdening our already crowded shelters, LA Animal Services returned to the residence on October 1 and impounded an additional six dogs that were taken to our West LA shelter, with plans to safely retrieve and remove all remaining animals to our shelters during the following days.
The dogs from the Wilmington residence are available for adoption at our Harbor, West LA, and West Valley shelters. Like other pets adopted from LA Animal Services, these dogs will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and for LA City residents licensed. Adopters also receive a Petco flyer with discounts to help make their pet adoption a success, and a VCA Healthy Start Certificate, which provides up to $250 of follow up veterinary care within the first 14 days of adoption. In addition, dogs are eligible for free dog training classes with Paws for Life K9 Rescue at their People & Pet Innovation Center in Mission Hills, CA.
