⚠️ West Nile Virus Detected in Bell

The Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District has confirmed the first mosquito sample positive for West Nile virus in Bell this year. The sample was collected on July 29.

I want to make sure our residents are aware and taking simple precautions to protect themselves and their families.

• Remove standing water around your home at least once a week
• Keep pools, spas, and ponds properly maintained
• Use insect repellent when outdoors, especially around dusk and dawn
• Report neglected or green pools to Vector Control
• Report dead birds at www.westnile.ca.gov or 1-877-WNV-BIRD

West Nile virus can cause fever, headache, body aches, nausea, or a rash. While many people do not develop symptoms, serious illness can occur.

Please take a few minutes to check your property for standing water. Keeping our community safe is something we can all help with.

El Distrito de Control de Vectores del Condado de Los Ángeles ha confirmado la primera muestra de mosquitos positiva para el virus del Nilo Occidental en Bell este año. La muestra fue recolectada el 29 de julio.

Quiero asegurarme de que nuestros residentes estén informados y tomen algunas precauciones sencillas para protegerse a sí mismos y a sus familias.

• Elimine el agua estancada alrededor de su hogar al menos una vez por semana
• Mantenga adecuadamente las piscinas, spas y estanques
• Use repelente de insectos cuando esté al aire libre, especialmente al anochecer y al amanecer
• Reporte las piscinas abandonadas o con agua verde al Distrito de Control de Vectores
• Reporte aves muertas en www.westnile.ca.gov o llamando al 1-877-WNV-BIRD

El virus del Nilo Occidental puede causar fiebre, dolor de cabeza, dolores corporales, náuseas o sarpullido. Aunque muchas personas no presentan síntomas, en algunos casos puede causar una enfermedad grave.

Por favor, tómese unos minutos para revisar su propiedad y eliminar cualquier agua estancada. Mantener nuestra comunidad segura es responsabilidad de todos.

Last week, I had the honor of celebrating the Bell High School Class of 2026.

As a Bell High graduate myself, it was special to stand before the next generation of Eagles and recognize all they have accomplished.

Congratulations to the graduates, their families, teachers, counselors, coaches, and staff. Bell is proud of you.

We’re officially in the heart of it. Today is Jueves Santo, remembering the Last Supper and the call to serve one another. Tomorrow, we move into the solemnity of Good Friday. Saturday is that unique, quiet middle ground of Sábado de Gloria, and then, the best part—Easter Sunday.

It’s a powerful transition from shadows back into the light. Taking these next few days to reflect, reset, and get ready for the joy of the Resurrection.

Wishing you a meaningful Triduum and a very happy Easter.

Ya estamos de lleno en lo más importante. Hoy es Jueves Santo, un día para recordar la Última Cena y ese llamado a servir a los demás. Mañana entramos en la solemnidad del Viernes Santo. El sábado nos espera ese momento único de silencio y espera que es el Sábado de Gloria, y después, lo mejor de todo: el Domingo de Resurrección.

Es una transición muy fuerte de la oscuridad hacia la luz. Hay que aprovechar estos días para reflexionar, resetear y prepararnos para la alegría de la Pascua.
