May was CalFresh Awareness Month, a reminder that food assistance programs are a lifeline for hundreds of thousands of Angelenos and a critical tool in the fight against hunger.
To close out the month, Councilmember Jurado brought together city and county partners to recognize the work being done every day to connect residents with food, nutrition assistance, and other essential resources.
As new federal SNAP requirements take effect, Councilmember Jurado is also taking action. She introduced a motion to help residents navigate the changes, expand outreach and enrollment efforts, and ensure eligible families don't lose access to food assistance because of paperwork, confusion, or barriers to access.
Thank you to Los Angeles Community Investment for Families Department, and L.A. County Department of Public Social Services, and all of the community partners working to ensure Angelenos can access food with dignity.

Councilmember Jurado joined the Boyle Heights community for the 80th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Mexican-American All Wars Memorial, a place that carries generations of history, service, and sacrifice.
For decades, young men and women from Eastside neighborhoods and immigrant families answered the call to serve, believing in the promise of the American Dream and giving so much in return. This memorial honors those lives and ensures their stories continue to be remembered.
This space also holds another powerful chapter in our history: it served as the starting point of the Chicano Moratorium protests, where thousands gathered to demand recognition, dignity, and justice for Mexican American servicemembers and communities.
Today, we remember those who came before us, and we make sure future generations know whose shoulders they stand on.

On Memorial Day, we honor and remember the service members who gave their lives in service to our country.
Councilmember Jurado joined the El Sereno community for the Bicentennial Memorial Day Remembrance, a longstanding tradition that brings neighbors, veterans, and families together to reflect on the lives, service, and sacrifices behind this day.
Thank you to Genny Guerrero and the El Sereno Bicentennial Committee for carrying this tradition forward and for the care they put into preserving and maintaining the El Sereno Veterans Monument year after year. Thank you as well to the El Sereno Branch Library, our veterans, military families, and everyone who helped make this meaningful gathering possible.

…and here are your CD14 updates!
From voting on next fiscal year's budget to advancing key motions and resolutions addressing urgent community needs, Councilmember Jurado has been hard at work across the district.

This week, Councilmember Jurado introduced a resolution challenging Pasadena and South Pasadena’s proposed stormwater project on Los Angeles parkland, citing concerns raised by the Kizh Nation and local communities around sacred Indigenous sites, habitat loss, and lack of meaningful community input.
If approved by the City Council, the resolution would place the City of Los Angeles on record opposing the project on City-owned parkland, while calling for stronger protections for San Pascual Park and the surrounding Arroyo Seco open space. It would also affirm the need for real consultation with impacted communities and Tribal nations before any decisions move forward.
Councilmember Jurado will continue to show up alongside residents who are organizing, speaking out, and working to protect the places that matter most to our communities.

Celebrating 40 years of Proyecto Pastoral 💜
What began as a grassroots movement led by Father Greg Boyle and the women of Boyle Heights has grown into a powerful community institution serving more than 8,000 children and families through youth programs, early education, community organizing, and homeless services.
For four decades, Proyecto Pastoral has helped build leaders, create safe spaces, and uplift generations across Boyle Heights and the Eastside.
Councilmember Jurado was proud to honor Proyecto Pastoral’s incredible legacy alongside Executive Director Raquel Román and community members Margarita Hernandez, Leticia Galvan, and Joe Diaz. On the evening of the gala, Los Angeles City Hall was illuminated purple in celebration of the women, families, and community leaders who built this legacy and continue to move Boyle Heights forward every day.
Here’s to 40 years of community power – and many more to come.
