We got some calls from people needing a place for their pets during the Gardena chemical evacuation. Called our volunteers and they’d already taken in some cats and bunnies from the evacuation area. We’ll post here shortly if we find more room or other rescues that will take evacuated animals.

Found some older photos we hadn't posted previously. Opossum baby with fly eggs. We cleaned out the fly eggs. Saw something black under the tongue. It was a fly, probably the fly that laid the eggs in its mouth. Fly was dead. Opossum was fine and released many years ago.

Dr. Kwane Stewart sets the record straight on Skid Row animals. We agree with him and work with him. Thousands of animals aren’t dying. They are not using animals for experiments or testing drugs for fentanyl. Some "rescue groups" made these allegations then they begged for money stating they are rescuing these alleged animals. Others are using these stories to attack Mayor Bass during an election cycle. The media is running with it because it's a sensational story which helps them sell ads.

We saw from a few sources that homeless people on Skid Row may be using dogs to test drugs for fentanyl. This came from a dog rescuer and hasn't been confirmed by authorities. There are cheap fentanyl test strips that are $1-$2 which test for fentanyl. Some groups hand them out for free. We're contacting the groups to see about handing out some kits on Skid Row. If anyone has any additional information about the situation down there, please, let us know. Otherwise we'll be doing some outreach down there.
