Today in Council, we adjourned in memory of Baby Luna whose life was tragically taken from her far too soon. At four months old, her life was only beginning.

Our hearts are with Luna’s family, loved ones, and everyone in our Pueblo Del Rio community who has been affected by this heartbreaking and shocking loss. We will continue to hold her in our hearts and keep her loved ones in our thoughts.

Meet Price’s Pet of the Week - Ginger 🐾

This 10-month-old, 52 lb girl has plenty of love to share🫚 Ginger is playful, affectionate, gentle with treats, and loves being engaged with her person. She knows her “sit” and is always ready for some fun. She is available for adoption at our Chesterfield Square/South LA Center.

Another perk to saying “yes” to adoption! Adopters will also receive a Petco flyer with discounts to help make their pet adoption a success! Dogs are also eligible for free dog training classes with Paws for Life K9 Rescue at their People & Pet Innovation Center in Mission Hills, CA.

The six LA Animal Services Centers are open Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Centers are closed Mondays and City-observed holidays. For more information about LA Animal Services, visit: laanimalservices.com.

As a community, we all have a role to play. If you see illegal dumping or bulky items in your neighborhood, please report them to 3-1-1 or contact our district office so we can help keep CD 9 clean, safe, and welcoming for all.

Today, alongside Mayor Karen Bass we signed critical protections from Executive Directive 17 for LA’s immigrant communities into law. This order provides clear direction to our City departments and employees, prohibiting the use of our facilities by federal agents during immigration enforcement efforts.

Our immigrant neighbors are the heart of our communities. LA will not stand by as families are torn apart. We will use the authority we have to protect our neighbors, no matter their immigration status.

Today, St. Joseph Center launched its Youth Workforce Program at its existing facility on 85th Street and Broadway, creating new pathways to opportunity for South Los Angeles residents ages 18 to 30. Through professional development, youth will gain necessary skills to enter the tech industry.

St. Joseph Center continues to make a meaningful impact across Greater Los Angeles, expanding access to opportunity and empowering the next generation. Team Price looks forward to continuing our partnership with St. Joseph Center and connect CD 9 residents with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.

For decades, Dr. Carl A. McCorkle, a minister of Love and Unity Church and a beloved community leader, has brought people together through faith and fellowship.

Last week, Team Price honored him with the unveiling of a square dedicated in his name at the intersection of 48th Street and Avalon Boulevard.

Please join the Office of Councilmember Curren Price and the moms of Pueblo del Rio at 6 p.m. for a candlelight vigil at 52nd Street and Holmes Avenue to remember and mourn a baby girl who was found near the community and later died.

Neighbors will gather to remember her, support one another and stand with the families who are grieving.

Les invitamos a acompañar a la oficina del concejal Curren Price y a las mamás de Pueblo del Rio a las 6 p. m. en una vigilia con velas en la calle 52 y la avenida Holmes, para recordar y lamentar la pérdida de una bebé que fue encontrada cerca de la comunidad y que después falleció.

Last week, I was honored to unveil a square in recognition of Bishop Kenneth Little at the intersection of 49th Street and Avalon Boulevard for his decades of faith, leadership, and service.

Bishop Little has dedicated his life to uplifting others and bringing people together, not only through Ebenezer Baptist Church, but throughout the broader South Central LA community.

Thank you for your many years of giving back and your commitment to our neighbors.
