🌺 **TAÍNO ROOTS, BORICUA RESURGENCE**

For generations, Puerto Ricans were taught that our Indigenous ancestors had disappeared. Yet their descendants, knowledge, and cultural legacy endured. In recent years, renewed interest in Taíno heritage has continued a reclamation movement built over decades. Across Puerto Rico and the diaspora, Boricuas are embracing ancestral connections and challenging a colonial narrative that confused devastation with disappearance.

That resurgence lives in artisans reviving ancestral crafts, families preserving oral histories, and communities reconnecting with Indigenous foods, words, and traditions. It also lives in efforts to protect sacred places and pass knowledge to younger generations. Reclaiming this heritage means learning its history, listening to those who preserve it, and understanding that belonging runs deeper than a DNA percentage.

This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, let us honor our ancestors by supporting the people keeping their legacy alive. Embracing our Taíno roots does not diminish our African heritage or the other histories that shape us—it deepens our understanding of who we are. **Our ancestors belong in our future, too. Borikén remembers, reclaims, and carries their legacy forward.** ✊🏽
