As directed by the Tennessee Code Annotated, revenue is generated by fees for service.

Shelby County’s criminal court system will expand from 9 to 11 divisions following the passage of HB1268, restoring Division IX and adding a new criminal court to meet growing caseload demands. The divisions are expected to open on September 1, 2026. The judges will be appointed by the governor and will serve until the next election in 2028.
