Development is taking shape all over Memphis, but we have to be intentional if we want it to look different.

The Memphis and Shelby County CRA has recently launched their Essential Housing program that is supporting local developers like Billy Irby in North Memphis, Smokey City! Billy Irby

Billy is currently building on two parcels with the support of organizations and funding sources that have committed to being intentional to help build LOCAL and minority wealth. I’m glad to support organizations such as the CRA that is making small dreams have a big impact!

As we need many people to make the City of Memphis function, we have to think about what helps make their lives easier.
I’m glad to introduce this initiative with Councilwoman Green to ensure paid parental leave for all full time City Employees! No parent should worry about the loss of income when choosing to bond or care for a child that enters their life.
Hopefully this is a start for others to see how progressive policies can truly take care of the people that care for our City.

I look forward to Mayor Young establishing this policy, and I appreciate his collaboration on this initiative!

To someone that embodied what it meant to be supportive of the next generation, collaborative with other “do-gooders”, and loving towards the entire City of Memphis… I say rest well G.A Hardaway ❤️

My prayers are with your family to provide them peace and strength that only God can supply.

Today at the Lewis Center, young leaders stepped up to assist our seniors with their technology needs. Moments like these show the power of community, connection, and service across generations.

Affordable housing does not happen by accident. It happens through strong policy, partnerships, and follow through.
I joined the CRA to highlight the launch of the Essential Housing Program and celebrate the first completed build by Moody CDC.

This is just the beginning, with more developers coming on board to help meet the housing needs of our neighborhoods!
